BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter   May 1, 2019        Vol. 38 Issue 8
Hello Brewster Day Camp,

Happy May! Warm weather is finally here! I am overjoyed to be spending more and more time outside, soaking up the rays of sunshine and warm breezes that we are lucky enough to enjoy in Southern New England at this time of year.

Being an "outdoors person" certainly is a well fitting character trait for a camp director, however, I IDENTIFY as much more than someone who enjoys spending time playing on the beach, running through the woods, or swimming in the closest body of water I can find.
My IDENTITY encompasses all of my interests and aversions, my accomplishments and my failures, my friendships, my teams, and my family. I remind myself that all of these experiences shape who I am, yet I can IDENTIFY with more than one thing at any given time. Most importantly, my IDENTITY encapsulates who I am, where I've been, and where I am going. Yet, my IDENTITY does not completely define me - nor does yours totally define you!
You can IDENTIFY as an athlete on your school's sports team while, at the same time, IDENTIFYING as the lead in your school's theater production. You can be everything all at once or you can choose to IDENTIFY with one aspect of yourself. Most importantly, you can IDENTIFY with whatever you like...this is what makes you, YOU!
At BDC, we encourage every child, individual, and family member that steps foot on our campus to explore their own IDENTITIES. Camp is a place to take safe risks. This may mean exploring an interest that puts you outside of your comfort zone, making a connection with someone with whom you are unfamiliar, or pushing yourself to face a challenge - even if that  means you might not succeed, at first. Camp is a place to constantly learn about yourself, to lean into and connect with each unique aspect of your IDENTITY. BDC celebrates the IDENTITIES that make each and every member of the camp family unique.

I challenge you to explore all of your own IDENTITIES and I applaud you for IDENTIFYING as a member of the BDC Family! I am sending you heaps of...

Courage, Hope, Good Spirit & Peace!
