WCDIA Online Poll
Would you participate in an online B2B event?
Yes
No
After much deliberation, WCDIA has decided to cancel WestDef 2020 due to the limits on gatherings still being in effect. With the re-opening activities in Canada after the COVID-19 Shut-downs still progressing slowly, we feel it would be best to postpone event activities until July at the earliest.

We are working on determining the interest in putting on an online B2B event and moving our Workshops online. We will re-evaluate the event planning in July based on the success of the economy re-opening.

We thank everyone for their interest and continued support.

Office of Naval Research Funding Opportunity

Although the deadline to apply is only a few days away, DND wanted to inform you about an opportunity. The Office of Naval Research in the United States is looking for applications from universities and industry in three subject areas, namely:

  • Tailored material and manufacturing;
  • Multifunctional maritime films for persistent and survivable platforms and warfighters; and
  • Object detection and identification in any medium (air, water, sand, earth).

The Office of Naval Research Global seeks to foster relationships with the international science community and build long-lasting partnerships worldwide. To do so, the command has launched Global-X, a nine-month international science challenge worth up to $750,000 to encourage ground breaking research from all around the world.

Global-X is designed to stimulate new, high-risk, multidisciplinary research ideas with both military and commercial value, to solve present and future U.S. Navy and Marine Corps technology needs.

Researchers from academia and industry, encompassing all disciplines and countries, are invited to form multinational teams to address any challenge area. Congratulations to Tacteris: Awarded the contract for emergency management software
Tacteris to develop resource logistics application for the Department of National Defence

Tacteris Systems (“Tacteris”) has been awarded a research and development contract under the Innovative Solutions Canada Program, sponsored by Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC), Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP). The aim is to develop innovative software to support Canada’s diverse community of emergency response agencies.

A technology gap has been identified in tracking, distributing, and managing equipment, supplies, and personnel during emergencies, particularly large-scale incidents requiring multi-agency response.

Tacteris will develop web-based design concepts to address the resource logistics challenge. Focus will be on streamlined workflows enabling civilian and government agencies to pool resources during an operation. A secure, on-demand shared resource repository, accessible from any mobile device, will also be developed.

“Never before has the need for sustained and streamlined coordination between different agencies been so critical to safeguarding the health and safety of Canadians,” said Sundeep Kharey, Vice President at Tacteris. “We’re working directly with our nation’s emergency response personnel to understand their needs on the frontlines, and we aim to deliver powerful tools that can provide the decisive advantage during a crisis.”
