CM Chair's Note
Dear Teachers,

Please look for the MTAC State Office e-mails. They are the only thing that provides information regarding the CM exam. Currently, we only know that they will assign our branch a date for the students to upload their performances. As of now, they have not given us the date, but they did say sometime at the end of this month.

Please read the recording directions carefully and have the students follow them.

From my experience with my own students, I found that some of them did not follow the recording angle directions very well. For example, they did not show a more aerial view of the student's hands at the keyboard, or they didn't have the student's feet showing for pedalling, etc.

The students send me their recordings for me to advise. Any piece longer than a minute is hard to send by e-mail. I have them use google drive and they send me a link. Some send to me through their phone. You may have other methods.

Remember they must dress well, though I let my students play without shoes.

The theory exams will be held in June, if I read the directions correctly. And again, they will announce when and how that happens. They have not sent anything yet.

Be safe and take care,

Gloria Ho
CM Chair

Helpful information for online class on Zoom
First of all, Zoom and most laptop/tablet microphones have built-in audio enhancements that are great for picking up speech, but are not great for music. You will need to turn off these audio enhancements to make sure the audience and judges hear a good-quality version of your performance. Here are the instructions:

How to disable "Audio Enhancements" on a MAC in Mojave:

System Preferences - Sound - Uncheck box “Use ambient noise reduction”

How to disable the "Audio Enhancements" on a PC in Windows 10:

Right-Click the Speaker Icon in the Taskbar, Select Sound - Recording
Double Click Microphone
Select Enhancements - Check "Disable all sound effects"
Select Communications - Check "Do Nothing”

Register and install the ZOOM App ( www.zoom.us )

Disable the "Audio Enhancements in Zoom:

Click on the ^ next to microphone icon bottom left corner
Audio Settings - Audio - Uncheck Box “Automatically adjust microphone level” and set slide to middle
Click ADVANCED
Check Box “Show in meeting option “To Enable Original Sound” from microphone
"Suppress Persistent Background Noise” - select “Disable"
Echo Cancellation - select “Auto”

Quit out of any unnecessary applications running in the background

Don’t have other devices in your home use Wifi during this time

It's best to use an ethernet connection
