CancerCare's Virtual National Gala

CancerCare raised over $800,000 in its first-ever virtual gala, held on April 21, 2021. The event honored Barasch & McGarry, Lawyers for the 9/11 Community, with the 2021 Corporate Achievement Award, and Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti gave a live performance. Attendees were able to bid on one-of-a-kind items ranging from fine wine and food experiences, original art, vacation getaways and more.
Caring for a Loved One With Brain Cancer

For Brain Cancer Awareness Month, Paige Soleimani addresses the challenges facing those caring for someone with brain cancer. Often, brain cancers are discovered after a seizure, stroke or other episode, leading to a later diagnosis. The patient may also experience changes to their physical, mental and emotional well-being throughout treatment.

These sudden changes can be difficult for caregivers. As an oncology social worker, Soleimani is able to help caregivers, as well as cancer patients themselves, as in the upcoming Brain Cancer Support Group available to those in New York.
New Report on Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor (TGCT)

Earlier this year, CancerCare invited experts to discuss tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT), a rare form of cancer that occurs in the soft tissues in and around joints. This advisory board sought to characterize the experience of those with TGCT and find ways to educate and support patients, caregivers and health care providers about the diagnosis. The results of the discussion are available in our report Improving Resources and Support for Patients with Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor.
