LAA/Sound View Palmetto Gallery

The Landings Art Association invites you to the LAA/Sound View Gallery at the Palmetto Club from May 6 through June 2 to see new works by LAA Artists of the Month, Patricia Lamar and Debbie Leecock.

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, and born into a family of musicians, Pat Lamar was raised to be active in her community and passionate about music. Her interest in painting began in the 1980’s when a close friend invited her to try a class. After several classes and much practice, art with its endless possibilities became a passion and an integral part of her life. Pat eventually taught her own classes in oil and acrylic painting, and opened a studio and store where she hosted seminars with many fine artists from all over the country.

Illness would unfortunately force Pat to take a sabbatical for a few years, but after a successful kidney transplant, she was able to return to an active life. She has become an accomplished watercolor artist whose interests know no bounds. Her styles vary from still life to impressionism, and she explores subjects from nature and all of life’s gifts.

Pat is presently exhibiting in Savannah at The Gallery at Chippewa Square. She has won awards from the Savannah Art Association and The Landings Art Association. A decorator for more than 25 years, Debbie Leecock has created unique designs and floral arrangements for customers throughout the country. In her native New Jersey, her famous clients included John McEnroe and Tatum O’Neal. In Dallas, Texas, she developed a strong following for her lavish Christmas decorating, attracting the attention of some of the area’s wealthiest families, including the heirs to the Barclay’s Bank fortune.

Debbie has also designed product showrooms in some of the largest to-the-trade markets, decorated retail showrooms, furnished model homes and staged houses to enhance their allure to potential buyers. Debbie’s Christmas decorating has garnered rave reviews and numerous awards.

The florals Debbie will be showing represent a small sampling of her ability to create unique pieces to complement any style of décor. Debbie has been working with floral designs in both silk and natural flowers for over thirty years, and her work is currently on display at The Signature Gallery in Savannah’s City Market. You have likely encountered Debbie’s work at one of the many Landings Club functions for which she has provided the floral centerpieces. Debbie can be reached at [email protected].

The LAA Artist of the Month opening receptions are still on hold, however, our exhibits at the Palmetto Club Gallery continue to showcase the work of our very talented artists. Please don’t miss this special exhibit.

MEMBERS’ GALLERY at The Palmetto Club

INTAKE & PICK-UP at Palmetto will take place on Wednesday, May 5thbetween 9AM and 11AM! Please wear a mask and bring a pen with you when dropping off your piece. All pieces hung in April must be picked up at this time.

Remember…Oversized artwork (larger than 30”x30” framed) is accepted with a prior reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum size for oversized art is 36” LONG X 36” WIDE. This includes the frame. For all other artwork, the maximum size remains at 30” X 30” framed (with hanging wire) and, as usual, NO reservation is required.

THE LAA ART CHALLENGE

“Potent Potables”

JOIN THE FUN! WIN SOME CASH!

The LAA Art Challenge theme for May is “Potent Potables”. The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must be the name of a liquor or a mixed drink ☺

Post up to 2 pieces that have never been seen in any of our venues. If you are posting 2 pieces, please use a separate post for each piece. Posts must include the title of the piece, size and medium. If you do not know how to post on Facebook, send pieces along with title, size and medium, to Marie Tomlinson ([email protected]) and they will be posted for you.

NEW ON THE CHALLENGE…

To give artists more time to complete artwork, we are listing the Challenge themes from now until January 2022. During this time, all themes will focus on the TITLE of pieces rather than the content. Remember to post the correct themed piece during the corresponding month:

May 2021 “Potent Potables” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must be the name of a liquor or a mixed drink ☺

June 2021 “Four-Letter Words” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must only contain four-letter words ☺

July 2021 “Movie and TV Madness” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must be the name of a movie or TV show, past or present ☺

August 2021 “What’s the Weather?” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must relate to the weather ☺

September 2021 “UN’s the Word” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must contain a word beginning with the letters “UN” ☺

October 2021 “On Broadway” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must be the name of a Broadway PLAY or SOUNDTRACK ☺

November 2021 “Gobble, Gobble” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must contain the name of something edible ☺

December 2021 “We’ve Got Your Number” - The content of your art is up to you, but the TITLE of your piece(s) must contain a number or mathematical term ☺

Our FB Challenge group currently has close to 400 members, including LAA members who post their work, art appreciators, and friends of members. Close to 380 never-before-seen (in any of our venues) pieces of art have been on display in the gallery in the past few months and many have sold!

This online gallery can be found in the Facebook group called “The LAA Art Challenge”, and cash prizes are awarded each month for 1^st and 2^nd place pieces based on the month’s theme. Special thanks to Sound View Wealth Advisors for their help in making this possible.

Remember – if you have any Facebook friends who would enjoy seeing art created by our talented members, invite them to join our LAA Art Challenge Group. According to our current By-Laws, a posting of proposed Board Members and Chairs for our coming 2021-22 Season must be presented to all members. We normally do this at our March or April General Membership Meeting but due to its cancellation and the unusual times we're in, it will be done via e-blast.

Should anyone have questions, wish to oppose the election of any of the proposed Officers and/or Chairs, or wish to nominate someone else, contact Nancy Lieb, LAA Secretary and 2021-22 Election Chair, at [email protected] before April 30, 2021.
