May, 2021

Dear Chamber Members-

I can barely believe that this will be the last President’s letter that I will be writing. In some ways, the time has gone so quickly, but when we look back to all the changes that have taken place in our personal and professional lives in this last year, I can hardly believe that it has only been a year.
Whereas a year ago we were sheltering at home and learning new ways to run our businesses in the midst of a pandemic, we are now optimistically putting together plans and hope to host some in-person events this summer such as: our Annual Meeting and Awards Reception in May, the Giro d’ Grafton in June, Holidaze in July and Ladies Night Out in August, as well as the continuation of the Farmer’s Market and the resurrection of the Food Truck Tour. These are great signs of some return to normalcy and I praise the Chamber staff and the committees for looking for some alternative ways to be able to host these events and still keep CDC guidelines in mind.

I am hopeful that many of you will be able to join us for the election of the new officers at our Annual meeting on May 25th, held at the beautiful new Ozaukee Nonprofit Center. We’ll also celebrate our Community Award recipients, a list of very talented and dedicated individuals that we are thankful to have a part of the Grafton community. As part of the group surprising these individuals with their awards, I can say that I have been truly touched at their excitement and gratitude over the award bestowed upon them. They are all so deserving!

I’ll close out my final President’s Letter, using the words of Ernest Hemingway: “It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end.”

Thank you Chamber members, staff and Board for allowing me to participate in the incredible journey that this past year has proven to be. And please join me in giving a warm welcome to Amanda Hansen, General Manager of the Hampton Inn and Suites, who will take over the reins at our Annual Meeting later this month.
Mary Karnitz
