HIGHLIGHTS & STORIES
THANK YOU TO BITTERSWEET PASTRY SHOP!
April was Volunteer Appreciation Month and Bittersweet Pastry Shop donated cookies to help us show our appreciation. Thank you for celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Month with us in April!
THE SATURDAY RESTOCK & GLEANING CREW TACKLED A MOUNTAIN OF DRY GOODS!
Monday through Friday, Hub volunteers glean all perishable goods and tackle the dry goods on Saturday. They gleaned this massive pile of dry goods and set The Hub up for success for next week! Thank you to our Saturday crew for spending part of their weekend with us!
THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM VOLUNTEERS AT CRADLES TO CRAYONS!
Cradles to Crayons, a collaborative partner of Lakeview Pantry, collects, processes, packages, and distributes clothing to children in need. Our Development Team enjoyed sorting and packing clothing for kids that needed transition outfits from spring to summer, and they had so much fun. Volunteerism inspires us! When you’re not volunteering at Lakeview Pantry, consider doing a shift at Cradles to Crayons and tell them we sent you!
VOLUNTEERING AT THE WRIGLEY FIELD VACCINE CLINIC!
One of our volunteers, Kay, recently volunteered at the American Airlines Conference Center at Gallagher Way Vaccine Clinic and shared her experience with us: “It was such a feel-good experience as everyone was so happy and relieved to be getting vaccinated!" Check out a few other vaccine clinic volunteers pictured here!

Thank you to all our volunteers for supporting the vaccine clinic! If you would like to volunteer at the vaccine clinic, sign up for “Wrigley Vaccine Clinic” shifts on your personal site.
FOOD SAFETY VIDEO
Our very own Manager of Food Operations, Katie Adams, created a food safety video for our Lakeview Pantry volunteers who are interested in getting additional information on food safety. Click here if you’re interested in learning more about the guidelines we follow!
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Katie H.

Katie recently joined Lakeview Pantry as Care Coordinator in April 2021, where she assures client access to the appropriate social services they’re looking for. You’ll find her at our Sheridan location during most of the week, but as a bilingual Spanish speaker, she also works to provide the same services at our La Casa Norte location.

A Chicagoland native, Katie graduated from Chicago’s DePaul University with a double bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Community Psychology (if you don’t know what this is, she will be your knowledgeable guide). When she’s not at work, Katie enjoys reading, writing poetry, hiking, and traveling as much of the world as she can see. She is incredibly grateful and proud to be a part of an organization like Lakeview Pantry, and excited for the opportunity to serve the communities of the city.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Stephanie Stuart

I grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN, and moved to Chicago in 1983, after graduating from Indiana University. I worked as a paralegal for five years, before joining CPD in 1988. After 31 years, and proudly obtaining the rank of Lieutenant, I felt it was time to hang up my hat. I retired in May 2019. My plan was to work my summer job every year (security at Wrigley Field) and then travel the world in the fall and spring. I managed to get one trip in before COVID-19 put an end to that dream.

Early in April 2020, after another day of finding myself still in my pajamas at 6pm, I realized I needed to do something with my time besides sit in front of the computer screen. The nightly news was reporting that due to the pandemic, millions of Americans were suffering from food shortages. Lakeview Pantry was one of the first organizations that popped up in my Google search regarding volunteering. I love that their program offers more than just food, including mental wellness and social services, which are so greatly needed during this world health crisis.

All of my volunteering has been at The Hub. The people that work there are amazing! You can tell that they really care about their clients and what they are doing. I enjoy the different shifts available, which allows me to experience many aspects of this particular location. Volunteering, I've met so many interesting people from all walks of life: high school and college students, retired doctors, service industry workers, musicians, actors, teachers, veterans, etc. Volunteering at Lakeview Pantry this past year has been a truly enjoyable & rewarding experience that I hope to continue for years to come.
VOLUNTEER SHOUTOUTS
Have a volunteer you want to celebrate? Write your submission in the Volunteer Shoutout Jar or email us at volunteers@lakeviewpantry.org!
Shoutout to John M and Rohit G: They came in at the last minute to help us with boxes, because we were shorthanded with both volunteers and staff! They're both champs!!!

Shoutout to a volunteer group from Saint Clements, Cody W, Christopher Z, Michael G, and Linda B: They completely destroyed a 7-pallet mountain of dry goods today, reducing it to nearly nothing!

Shoutout to Lesly C: She was a brand new volunteer who was baptized by fire this morning at La Casa Norte. She single-handedly helped handle the deliveries and set up for distribution then shopped like a champion and even though she admitted she prefers more chill than busy vibes. A real trooper, that one!

Shoutout to Rory C and Alfredo S: They organized The Hub freezer and it looks so good!!!

Shoutout to Allie B: Allie jumped in at the last minute when we were understaffed for an Online Market shift!

Shoutout to Marge W: She completed 2 hours of invoice scanning for our admin which was a HUGE help!
