MAY 8, 2021 - CAMP STRANG PREPARATION DAY #2

May 8, will be our second Preparation Day. LUNCH will be available, but dress to get dirty.

We are retiring the term "workday". We need you to assist us in getting camp PREPARED by cleaning it, improving the camp facilities, and preparing OUR camp for the upcoming summer after its long hibernation.

SO...JOIN US AS WE GET CAMP STRANG PREPARED
FOR ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY!

There will be one more Prep Day - June 5.

Your gift will grow as funding is distributed from a pool of funds to participating organizations.

CONGRATULATION TO...

HOUSATONIC COUNCIL ALUMNI, AND UNITS on April 17th, held a successful Camp Preparation Day at the Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation to welcome our Scouts and our 60th Anniversary. Projects included wood chipping, Troop 55 built benches in Paugassett, Troop 3 collected and cut wood for Mohawk, the Dining Hall, Bassett Lodge, Tierney Lodge, and the Training Center were swept and cleaned. Order of the Arrow prepared for the upcoming Ordeal. THANK YOU to our Council Alumni, Camp Staff Alumni, the Burlinsons, Troop 3, Troop 55, Order of the Arrow, and Council Executive Board members who joined us.

PACK 25, SHELTON had a Blue and Gold event at Osborndale State Park. Seven youth received their Arrow of Light, five boys from Pack 25 and one from Pack 27 crossed over to Troop 25. Troop 25 G had one young lady crossover.

PACK 51, ANSONIA held a 2-mile hike at Webb mountain in Monroe at the end of March.

TROOP 3, DERBY had twenty scouts and leaders participate in service projects including cleaning and raking at the Derby 2nd Congregational Church and the Ansonia Nature Center. Birdhouses installed at Seymour Land Trust - Legion Pool, Abe Stone Park in Ansonia, and Witek Park in Derby. Scouts planted vegetable seeds in the “Grow Your Own” community in Derby. In April, Adult volunteer, Michael Bradshaw, taught the art of flint knapping and arrow making. The month ended with a night at the Algonquin Archers in Woodbury with two prospective new members attending.

TROOP 19, SHELTON backpacked into Nichodale Park for a campout. They built a bridge over a stream using lashings and participated in the Shelton Clean Sweep. The Scouts were able to get outside and go camping.

TROOP 25B, TROOP 28, AND PACK 25, SHELTON performed 2 hours of community service on Pootatuck Place in Shelton behind the Hilton hotel. They did an amazing job cleaning up and had some fun doing it.

TROOP 27, SHELTON held an overnight camping weekend with 14 scouts. Youth worked on rank advancements, and the two patrols had a desert challenge on Saturday Night.

TROOP 55, SHELTON celebrates their 50th year of sponsorship by the Mens Club of the Huntington United Methodist Church IN 2021. Like all good Scouts, they created a patch for this milestone designed by one of their Life Scouts.
UI, PART OF THE AVANGRID FAMILY SUPPORTS HOUSATONIC COUNCIL WITH A $2,500 GRANT

The Housatonic Council received a grant of $2,500 to purchase program supplies for our Cub Scout Day Camp and for this summer's resident camp at the Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation.

The Housatonic Council is sincerely grateful for this donation to support our Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, and Adult Volunteer Leaders attending camp this summer.
