Hello!
The month of May brings the realization that the academic year is quickly coming to an end. Two highlights are the annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on May 26th and El Camino College's 75th Commencement scheduled for June 10th at 4pm in Murdock Stadium.
The Foundation's Scholarship Awards Dinner allows our generous scholarship donors to meet their student recipients. Commencement will celebrate all ECC graduates since the Class of 2020. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on campus, as we return to in-person events after a two-year hiatus. Enjoy the El Camino news below and join us for our upcoming events.
Warmly,

Student Spotlight: El Camino Forensics Team Wins National Title
|
|
For the first time in the 75-year history of El Camino College, the Forensics (speech and debate) team has won the highly competitive and prestigious overall Phi Rho Pi National Championship in held in St. Charles, Missouri earlier this month.
The 12-student Forensics team has made quite a name for itself over the years by winning state and national debate tournaments several times, thus making El Camino College a “powerhouse school” in the speech and debate competitions. However, this year, the 2021-2022 Forensics team won the highly coveted Phi Rho Pi distinction, which honors the best team across all categories and divisions.
On the road to history, El Camino College was the only community college team to compete in this year’s National Parliamentary Debate Association Championship Tournament against Cal Berkeley, University of Oregon, and Rice University, as the eloquently spoken students of El Camino College won the “Season Sweepstakes” title for 2022.

Program Spotlight: Vintage Typewriters Find New Home in Journalism Department
|
|
El Camino College alumni Jennifer Glassman and her father Keith Glassman, donated two vintage typewriters to the ECC Journalism Department. The typewriters belonged to Keith's father Paul, who attended El Camino College. They found the Underwood Lettera 22 and LC Smith & Corona in Paul's home office in Torrance while going through the family's heirlooms. Keith, who also lives in Redondo Beach, said he remembers using the Underwood typewriter and sometimes the LC Smith & Corona for some of his language, economics and accounting classes when he attended El Camino College in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Students from El Camino’s student-run newspaper The Union were present to receive the gifts.
