Join Windmore and American Legion Post 330 for Culpeper Remembers

Through a kind invitation from American Legion Post 330, Windmore Foundation for the Arts will present a Memorial Day commemoration, with music from The Piedmont Community Band and poems and prose honoring those who gave their lives in the service of our country from authors in Pen-to-Paper.

Culpeper Remembers was last held three years ago, and had been planned as an annual event. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, cancelled the event in 2020 and 2021. This Memorial Day will mark the return of what organizers hope will now be an annual event.

Culpeper Remembers will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th at American Legion Post 330, located on Route 229. The event will begin promptly at 3:00 P.M. with the playing of "Taps", so attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive early to find parking and settle in before the concert starts.

May meetings

We had a very active group at the morning writers’ meeting. Two of our newest members each read   the introductions to their books. They were eager for suggestions and feedback. The members of the group felt they had succeeded in drawing the reader into the story. They accomplished the goal of making the reader want to read more.

We have not been able to have an evening meeting for several years. In May we again started having a meeting from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. We had a small group, but we will continue to have the evening meetings since many people work during the day. Both meetings are open to writers of all ages and abilities. They are a good way to get feedback and suggestions for your stories.

We had more submissions for the anthology and there is still time to submit your writing for consideration. We will begin the planning process for the book this month. We are also interested in black and white pictures or drawings for the anthology. Send your submissions to

[email protected].

Please type your submissions in a Word document using Times New Roman 12 points. Graphics or pictures should be in jpg format.

We are also interested in poems or short stories about military men and women. You will be asked to read your story, or have it read by members of the StageWorks theater group at the Culpeper Remembers Memorial Day event on May 30th, at 3:00 P.M. at the American Legion Post 330 on Route 229. This is a free event. Piedmont Community Band will present music appropriate for the occasion.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Our next meetings are June 7th from 10:00 A.M. to Noon and from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Both meetings will be held in the conference room of the Culpeper County Library.
