"After running into Dennis Campbell at a museum opening, I joined GSCO and SCI and then Wild Sheep. Then the wild mountain life began for me. All over the world, I hunted mountain game."  Editor's note: Starting with European Mouflon in his native Belgium in the 80s and Marco Polo in the 90s, Jan has now collected 70 species of mountain game.

AFRICA (A LOT) + THE REST OF THE WORLD
"I have had many hunts in North America, Asia, South America, and the South Pacific. From the 80s, I have been going to Africa on a regular basis … usually 3 safaris a year." Editor's note: Therefore, it is not surprising that Jan has collected over 200 African trophies and over 130 species.

THE HUNTER IN THE RED BERET
The Red Beret has become Jan's "mascot," for which he is instantly recognizable. It was a present from his Basque brother-in-law more than 20 years ago, and he has worn it ever since; especially in the trophy photos. Jan says the game doesn't see red, but if a guide is uncomfortable with his Beret during the stalk, he puts it in his pocket and pulls it out upon success.

"I TRY TO HAVE FUN BETWEEN WORK"
And fun he does have, such as:
 
* Annual bird hunting trips for Scottish Grouse, and to England for Pheasants and Partridge for the last 33 years.
 
* Annual trips to Spain, Portugal, and the Czech Republic for flying game using only a 28 gauge shotgun.
 
* Polo, golf, fishing, and trips around the world with friends while riding Royal Enfield motorcycles.
 
What are his future plans? "Since I am only 68 years young, I feel like I am only at the beginning of my happy career."
