A Message from our President/CEO:
Dear Friends of United Way,
Today is the last day of our fiscal year and one in which I am celebrating GRATITUDE with each of you.
◦ I’m thrilled to report that we have exceeded our $1.2M fundraising goal, which alone is cause for celebration. This incredible milestone has happened because of the incredible support we receive from area businesses, allowing us to help them run successful workplace campaigns and offering corporate matches and gifts to impact local lives.
◦ It also is important to recognize our incredible Campaign Co-Chairs, Bob Woodward and April Finnin-Rink, who led these valiant efforts this year as well as our Resource Development Committee and our entire Board of Directors who have offered guidance, support and helped build relationships for United Way.
◦ Finally, let me share some gratitude with all our nonprofit partners who are working tirelessly every day to partner within the United Way network to impact over 55,000 local lives each year.
So today, in honor of all these things and more, let’s share some gratitude with one another. I know there is still so much work to be done together, but for today, thank you all for every dollar you pledged, every volunteer hour you logged, every event you supported. It all makes a difference. YOU make a difference, and for that, I am grateful.
Sincerely,
Danielle Leibfried
President/CEO

Long Serving Board Members' Terms Have Ended
Dan White (Retired John Deere Dubuque Works and past UAW Local 94), Tom Townsend (IBEW Local 704), and Gary Dolphin (Retired US Bank and current Voice of the Hawkeyes), have been members of United Way’s board for many years. This trio of engaged leaders will be rolling off the United Way board due to their terms ending, effective May 31, 2022.
We truly will miss their United Way history and their representation on the board however, perhaps Gary said it best when he shared, “I will always be a vocal supporter of United Way and the great impact it makes in our community, even if I’m not officially on the Board of Directors.” We are grateful for their service to United Way and our community. They have truly helped shape where our organization is today!

Congratulations to Sue Hafkemeyer, United Way’s Outgoing Board Chair
Please help us celebrate and recognize United Way’s Board Chair, Sue Hafkemeyer, who has been named the President/CEO of the Quad Cities Community Foundation. Sue has offered so much to our community, to MercyOne Foundation where she worked, and to United Way as an engaged and strategic leader. She will be missed by all in Dubuque but we know she will help lead wonderful community initiatives in her new home in the Quad Cities! Thank you for you service and exemplary leadership, Sue!

United Way Finds Homes for Donated Crocheted Treasures
United Way President/CEO, Danielle Leibfried, met community member Debby Folk when she agreed to participate in Dubuque Area Chamber’s Dancing with the Stars. Debby is with the Ballroom Academy of Dubuque but Danielle quickly learned Debby has skills that go far beyond just dancing! Debby shared the following amazing crocheted creatures with Danielle, knowing United Way would find a great home for them. Danielle immediately thought of a United Way funded partner, CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, because she knew how much these treasures would mean to children in the foster care system. Dawn Goerdt is the local CASA Coordinator and was excited to receive these donations and add them to other materials to create CASA bags for advocates to use when meeting with local youth. Dawn shared that one of the struggles for children involved in the juvenile court system is the number of new people, new faces, that come in and out of their lives. CASA plans to use these animals as a way for the CASAs to begin building rapport with the children they work with, and to provide a source of comfort as the children navigate day to day in unfamiliar situations. Thank you to Debby for sharing your amazing skills with our area nonprofits! If you would like to volunteer with CASA or to learn more, check them out on our volunteer portal at www.volunteerdbq.com

Thank you to Platinum Hospitality and the Grand River Center who sponsored a Dancing with the Stars event for Danielle Leibfried, United Way's President/CEO. Danielle is dancing to raise money for United Way and the over 55,000 local lives supported every year. The live dancing event happens this Saturday, June 4th. There is also still time to donate and get your tickets! For tickets contact Danielle!
