Rebrand alert! As of May 20, Lakeview Pantry has become Nourishing Hope. Why the name change? We changed our name to reflect our growth and evolution. We don’t just serve Lakeview; we’ve actually served other communities for more than 40 years! We’re also more than a food pantry — we’re a dynamic social services organization providing free mental health counseling, as well as job and housing assistance. Lakeview Pantry is Nourishing Hope. It’s what we do and, in many ways, what we’ve always done.

Learn more about it at our new website:
Please be advised that all Nourishing Hope locations will be closed on Saturday, May 28 and Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Nourishing Hope will also be closed June 18 and 20 for Juneteenth.
Program Expansion Manager Natia Barnett (left) is bringing Nourishing Hope’s home delivery program to the South and West sides of the city! Home Delivery South & West shifts, based out of our Headquarters at 1716 W Hubbard, are available!

Please consider signing up to ensure that our neighbors on the South and West sides receive their food deliveries. These shifts offer a great opportunity to explore areas of the city you may be less familiar with!
Nourishing Hope’s Young Leaders Board is hosting the End Hunger Social on Friday, June 10 at Nourishing Hope’s Headquarters, 1716 W Hubbard! Our goal is to raise half a million meals with the support of our community of young professionals. Click here to purchase tickets.
We're on the hunt for some dedicated volunteers with exceptional handwriting and clerical experience! Help us write notes, complete mailings, and send well wishes to our amazing donors and prospective supporters. No computer skills are required for this role. If you're interested in assisting on site and have a minimum of 12 hours per month to commit to this volunteer opportunity, please reach out to Grace Radzik at
On April 26, Nourishing Hope received the Mayor’s Medal of Honor. This honor is bestowed upon individuals and organizations who have made extraordinary contributions to residents of Chicago. We were one of 10 exceptional organizations to have received the Mayor’s Medal of Honor this year. Staff were encouraged to try on the medal to celebrate!
Check out this stunning photo journal by our very own Greg Trotter highlighting the new mural at Nourishing Hope’s Headquarters! All photos were taken by Mateo Zapata.

Diego Colón

We are excited to welcome Diego Colón as a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator! Diego is a native of Chicago and is a self described “Chicago Rican,” meaning that both of his parents came to Chicago from Puerto Rico. A graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Diego has an extensive history as a performing arts professional. In his free time, Diego enjoys going to the gym, playing video games, and writing music. Diego will be stationed at our Headquarters (1716 W Hubbard) and looks forward to meeting our wonderful volunteers.

Christine Withey

This month we are highlighting Christine Withey for her wonderful contributions at the Hub. She is noted for her willingness to learn new roles within shifts and help wherever she is needed. Christine states, “I started volunteering at the Hub in December 2021. After the business where I worked for 17 years closed, I was at a point in my life where I was feeling lost…[Nourishing Hope] helped give me purpose. Being able to volunteer to help others in need has been very fulfilling. I really enjoy the staff and other volunteers at the Hub and am grateful to be a small part of such a wonderful community!” Thank you for your service, Christine!
Have a volunteer you want to celebrate? Write your submission in the Volunteer Shoutout Jar or email us at!
  • Shoutout to Christine B who is always ready to do anything asked of her, always makes sure Sheridan is clean and ready for the next day before leaving, and goes the extra mile to make sure each client is getting everything they can.
  • Just another shoutout about Sharon F. who is, as always, a blessing.
  • Paul C has been absolutely integral to keeping Saturday packing going smoothly. He feels like another staff member, keeping an eye on all of the little details and training new volunteers!
  • Shoutout to Michael B for being an impromptu home delivery driver on Saturday, May 7!
  • Shoutout to Cheryl C: she always shows up to the 9:30am packing shift early, eager to help make sure the packing line is set up. She's always at the ready to welcome and orient new volunteers (individuals and groups alike!), and carries a genuinely positive energy that is felt every day she's here.
  • Thank you to all La Casa Norte volunteers for their patience and helping unload all the pallets the first week in May: Teresa R, Deny Q, Christina M, Tessie M, John S, Giovanni R, Morgan S, Elizabeth G, Brian P, Lisseth T, Heather S, Amelia G, Karina F, Beatriz S, Lauren A, Laurie D.
  • Shoutout to all La Casa Norte afternoon teams for keeping a great flow to the very end: Merel E, Amy B, Kimberly G, Nancy R, Emma W, Noah K, Liam C, Kahla C, Laura M, Amy B, Libby B.
  • Special thank you to the La Casa Norte intake team for being the wonderful first point of contact with our families: Esmeralda L, Raul M, Jean Carlos I, Barbara B.
  • May 11 was Receptionist Appreciation Day, so we’d like to recognize all the volunteer receptionists past and present, especially Cyndi R. Karen C. Richard T. Pat F., Katherine B., Noelle F., Marge W., Adrienne S., Carol L., Mary L., Ken L. and of course King Louie, for stepping up through so many changes to respond to our clients, guests and volunteers needs. It's not always easy, but they're always doing their best to help people whether in an emergency or just being a friendly face. We hope they know they are appreciated.
  • Shoutout to our amazing volunteer admin team who have been instrumental in helping us update our database and for their help in documenting our communications with donors: Erika K., Lee H., Olivia C., and Joy O.! These four tech-savvy and energetic volunteers have been hard at work for the past several months building capacity for our fundraising efforts, and have made such a huge impact cleaning data, documenting communications, searching for new funding opportunities, and researching key contacts at the institutions we already partner with. We're so thankful for this amazing team! If you have strong computer skills and database experience and are interested in learning more about how you might be able to get involved in supporting these and other clerical needs, reach out to
Wishing the happiest of May birthdays to our volunteers!
