“Journeying Together in Faith and Love” –
81st Annual Catholic Appeal

The 2022 Catholic Appeal is underway and runs through June 30. Now in its 81st year, the Appeal sustains the numerous agencies, programs, and ministries of the Diocese of Fall River, providing food, shelter, emergency assistance, spiritual comfort, and educational opportunities. Our theme for 2022 considers how we are walking down a common road with all our brothers and sisters, bringing the tenets of Pope Francis’ worldwide synod together with the good works made possible through our collective support for the annual diocesan Appeal. Every year, support from parishioners and friends helps children, adults, and the elderly by bringing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy to life. Please consider supporting our annual Catholic Appeal!

Nourishing New Bedford

Thanks to support totaling $110,000 from foundations including the Mabel Louise Riley Foundation, the Robert F. Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation, and the Yawkey Foundation, Catholic Social Services is expanding its efforts to address hunger and food insecurity in Greater New Bedford. To build upon the success of its stationary distribution model at the Solanus Casey Food Pantry, distributing approximately 43,000 pounds of food each month, CSS will be rolling out a new Mobile Delivery Food Service to the homebound, as well as increasing its capacity for food storage by installing a commercial freezer. The hours of operation at the Sr. Rose Soup Kitchen have also been expanded to serve meals on weekends and holidays. Advancing its work “with persons of all faiths and cultures in the Spirit of God’s universal love to advance human dignity and promote social justice, truth, and solidarity in our community” these enhancements will increase CSS’ ability to provide food to the poor, the working poor, and other vulnerable and underserved populations in New Bedford. CFSEMA is proud to have partnered with CSS to raise these funds that are critical to this expansion—in addition to funds raised through the annual Catholic Appeal which has been a longstanding partner in supporting CSS’s work. Thanks to all who contribute to CSS in making God’s love visible!
