Current Events and Politics
In person and online Current Events and Politics classes in May, June, and July promise lively discussion on timely topics.

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, David Cheney will cover The New World Order: Will the US Lead It? (Course 11897). Hear from the former Chief Editor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) what the future implications are from our current multi-polar system in which most countries pursue their national interests.

Alfred Hunt's next session of Let's Talk Current Events: Topics in the News (Course 11778)
begins Thursday, June 15, 2023, and will run for ten weeks. Ed Ginsberg's next session of
Let's Talk Current Events: Topics in the News (Course 11944) will be a hybrid format, alternating between in person and online meetings for six weeks, starting Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Both courses meet weekly for facilitated, open-minded conversation about a variety of challenging topics, including popular culture, politics, media issues, and other items in the news — at the local, national and international levels.
Just added to the catalog and now open for registration, Martin Flaherty's annual Supreme Court Roundup (Course 11956) will meet on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. This year's momentous decisions, the drama of a leaked draft opinion, and the controversy surrounding what financial disclosures and ethical guidelines should apply to those with lifetime appointments to the nation's highest court provide ample fodder debate. Specific topics will be determined once this term's final opinions are released over the course of the next few weeks. Class will be recorded and available for viewing up to one week, for those unable to attend the live presentation. Time will be reserved for audience Q&A.
