Volunteers make programs possible!

April is National Volunteer Month and, throughout the month, Literacy Network's Volunteer Manager Lilly Rotter connected with a few of our hundreds of volunteers to hear their personal stories. Meet two of our tutors below!

Raya is a volunteer tutor in our Community Literacy program.

Raya moved to the U.S. from Syria when she was in middle school and shares, “I want to provide support to immigrants, because I myself have an immigrant background.

She adds, "I have greatly enjoyed helping English language learners become more confident in conversing in English and helping them utilize English to achieve their personal and professional goals.”

Raya is a reliable, patient, and thoughtful tutor. Thank you for your service, Raya!

Janet has been at tutor for the HSED program for a year. Janet shares, " I consider helping my student get her High School Equivalency Diploma one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. I can’t wait to see her get her diploma in June."

Beyond helping her student reach her goal, Janet has also enjoyed connecting with her student individually, saying, "I have learned far more from her about resilience and perseverance than I could ever hope to teach her about reading or science."

Thank you for your exceptional dedication, Janet!

Join Raya, Janet, and hundreds of additional volunteers in helping students reach their goals! We are looking for volunteer tutors for our summer semester, which runs May 30th - August 21st. Learn more and apply on our website: https://www.litnetwork.org/volunteer/
