Hello!

May we help you? This is the theme for the month of May at the ECC Foundation. We are always willing to help our students succeed. However, our helpfulness doesn't stop there. We love helping other departments, connecting people, and doing random acts of kindness to make our campus community a better place.

Warmly,
Andrea Sala
Executive Director
Foundation Spotlight: Annual President's Dinner Was a Success!
The El Camino College Foundation recently held its annual President’s Dinner at Red Car Brewery and Restaurant in Torrance. This event allowed some of our most generous donors an opportunity to mix and mingle with Superintendent/President Brenda Thames in an intimate setting.

Thank you to ECC Foundation Board of Director Laurie Brandt, and her husband Bob Brandt, for hosting our private event at their restaurant. We’re so lucky for the support of all our President’s Circle and Community Partner donors!

Campus Spotlight: Grand Opening of Black Student Success Center
El Camino College celebrated the grand opening of its Black Student Success Center on April 26. Created from the advocacy work of El Camino’s Black Student Union leadership and other members of the Associated Students Organization (ASO), the Black Student Success Center (BSSC) is a safe space that promotes the personal, professional, and academic development of El Camino College Black and African American students. The purpose of the BSSC is to acknowledge the educational barriers within the African American community and commit to expanding sustainable resources, while creating a place of refuge for students to express themselves and succeed. The Black Student Success Center is one of the many branches of equitable support developed through the efforts of the Student Equity and Achievement Department. Located in the Communications building, services provided include:

  • Community Building
  • Writing and Mathematics Academic Mentoring
  • Laptop Use
  • Calculator Loan Program (via SEA Center)

Campus Spotlight: Come take a Tour with the ECC Foundation
City of Torrance Councilmember Jon Kaji (pictured far right) visited El Camino earlier this month to tour campus and to specifically visit our Manufacturing and STEM facilities. Also on the tour was Ann O'Brien (Executive Director, Marketing & Communications), Dr. Laurie Love (Foundation Board of Director), Jose Anaya (Dean, Community Advancement), and Andrea Sala (Foundation Executive Director). Jon Kaji, representing District 1, was elected to Torrance City Council in 2022. He is also a valued Foundation President's Circle donor.
Thanks to Boeing for visiting El Camino to explore a deeper educational partnership. Their tour focused on STEM, Manufacturing, Veterans Services and Social Justice programs. Pictured with Boeing's Government & Community Relations, Operations, and Human Resources team, were Andrea Sala (Foundation Executive Director), Heidi Wang (Foundation Development Officer), Brenda Threatt (Assistant Director Veterans Services), Nina Bailey and Rosana Merrill (Veterans Student Services Specialists) along with a few El Camino veteran students.

We enjoyed showcasing El Camino College and giving you all a warm Warrior Welcome!

Community Partners Spotlight: Chevron
As a valued Community Partner, we would like to recognize Chevron for their many years of generosity supporting El Camino students! Chevron's first major gift of $250,000 in 2011 helped fund El Camino's new STEM Center.

Chevron is an American multinational energy corporation and is the second-largest direct descendant of Standard Oil. Headquartered in San Ramon, California, Chevron has a local campus in El Segundo and is active in more than 180 countries. Chevron’s community engagement initiatives aim to contribute to economic growth and the well-being of the communities where they operate.

Thank you, Chevron, for your long-term support of our students. We appreciate all you do for El Camino!
