Medical Note
Proof of full COVID-19 Vaccination will be required for all in-person attendees at the conference. Exceptions will be made for those who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical conditions only. If you have a medical condition that prohibits you from receiving the vaccine, a letter from a physician on their letterhead must be provided. Details on the individual condition are not required, but the letter must be from a physician that you are unable to receive the vaccine due to medical issues. Also, those with the medical exception will be required to provide proof of a negative test no older than 72 hours prior to arrival. Please email your exemption letter to registration@nccaa.net.

Self-Sufficiency Spotlight
Shakoora Miller and Coastal Community Action, Inc.
Ms. Shakoora Miller became a participant on the CSBG Self-Sufficiency Program on January 9 th, 2018, through the support of Ms. Diane McMillian, Family Development Specialist for Coastal Community Action, Inc.
A mother of two, Ms. Miller is no stranger to Coastal Community Action, Inc. as she has been an active and engaged parent with her children, who both attended the F. R. Danyus Child Development Center in New Bern, NC. Ms. Miller herself was also a Head Start child who attended the Duffyfield Child Development Center in New Bern, NC.

Brittany Luxton named Executive Director, WAMY
W.A.M.Y. Community Action, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals and families struggling with poverty, has announced the appointment of Brittany Luxton as its new Executive Director effective June 1. With more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership roles, Luxton brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organization.

Mountain Projects Blanket Drive
A new, cozy blanket says love and comfort like nothing else, and thanks to community support for the annual Haywood County Blanket Drive, more than 300 blankets were provided to local families in need this winter along with significant cash donations to help with heating and utility bills.

Greene Lamp 9/11 Remembrance Competition
Local students in Lenoir and Greene Counties were recently recognized for their outstanding work in Greene Lamp's 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Program. The competition, which was open to middle and high school students, asked participants to submit an original essay, song, or poem on their reflection and research regarding the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

W.A.M.Y. Awarded Funds
The Blowing Rock Rotary Club distributed $17,500 to 12 nonprofit organizations that serve the High Country.
At a luncheon at Meadowbrook Inn on Monday, April 24, the Rotarians met alongside nonprofit representatives to recognize the 12 organizations that were awarded funds raised through the club’s partnership with the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show.

SCAP Partners in Job Fair
Southeastern Community Action Partnership recently partnered in a job fair at Robeson Community College. The fair featured more than 50 employers.
“It is comparable to some of the largest job fairs in Southeastern North Carolina, tailored to a lot of the programs we offer at the college,” stated Samantha Oxendine, the director of the RCC Counseling and Career Services.

Daily Herald: Draft for affordable housing needs available for review
The Choanoke Area Housing Consortium announced the Draft 2023-2027 Consolidated Plan and 2023 Annual Action Plan setting goals to address affordable housing needs are available until May 11 for review online via the websites for Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Martin and Northampton counties or the CADA website or in-person in county administrative offices or CADA offices.

Seniors Morning Out participants will enjoy a variety of activities in May including musical performances, craft classes and cooking demonstrations. Public Health will also be hosting a community conversation about health as part of its countywide community health assessment.

Macon Program for Progress joins providers, advocates & families in march for affordable childcare
Child-care providers, parents, businesses and community leaders will stand together to tell the North Carolina General Assembly they are united for change and investment in childcare.
Thursday morning, a group marched around the velodrome at Carrier Park in Asheville in a show of solidarity with early childhood advocates across the state.
