As Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month comes to a close, this month has provided an opportunity to reflect on the outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions of the AAPI community to our nation and in the field of education.
It is also a time to reflect on anti-Asian American hate and incidences of violence that continue to be targeted toward this community. I encourage all members of our community to reflect on our own agency to challenge hate narratives through education and partnership.
In this newsletter, you can read about our second Teaching for Justice Conference, which brought together educators, leaders, and community members to explore ways of integrating the principles of AAPI studies into their professional work. This year’s conference provided a platform for important conversations around AAPI well-being and belonging in the classroom and beyond. Also, in this issue, you can learn about some of our faculty work that is uplifting AAPI students and communities, as well as one of our teacher candidates who is striving to make a difference in her field.
While we continue dialogue, learning, understanding and appreciation for our diverse community, I want to share a few resources that celebrate and support our AAPI students, faculty and staff:
It is my hope that we continue to share knowledge, cultivate supportive and inclusive environments for the members of our community, and engage our work through an equitable lens so that we may build toward a more just environmental landscape.
Sincerely,
|
