A Message from the Valdese Recreation Department

The Town was pleased to have our Wayne Owens Gymnasium dedication at the end of April. After months of work, the gymnasium is finally open again, and we encourage everyone to come by and see the newly dedicated space. Funding from private donors and the town has gone a long way to revitalizing this space for our community, and we welcome visitors to stop in and see all of the amazing work that has been done, from the new basketball court floor to the new look of the lobby.

With summer almost here, it is almost time for the Bubble to come down at the Community Center. Join us this summer with a three month aquatics membership, with special discounted three month aquatic rates from May 22-June 22. With updated locker room amenities, come be a part of a fun summer tradition for so many.

Wayne Owens was a stalwart for our community youth programming. With Coach Owens in mind, it is incredibly exciting to see so many children from our community taking part in our softball, baseball, and tee ball programs. For the kids this summer, we’ll be offering swim lessons, as well as our summer youth swim team, the Valdese Torpedo Swim Team. We’ll also be hosting our youth Fun Fish event on May 13 for children 4-12 years old. We are also partnering with TennisBloc to offer tennis lessons on Tuesday nights and pickleball instruction on Thursday nights (registration is required).

Out in the parks, we’re excited about the completion of the Valdese Greenway. Starting at McGalliard Falls Park or Valdese Lakeside Park, traverse the two mile trail to see the Fox Den, McGalliard Falls Bridge, or the fishing pier that is currently under construction. New and exciting things are happening all around Valdese Parks and Recreation, so come out and see what all we have to offer.

The Town of Valdese is an excellent place to work. With friendly co-workers, challenging duties, and an opportunity to interact with the citizens of the best town in America, seeking employment with the Town is a wonderful career decision.
