Volume 40 | MAY 2023
May is National Caregiver Month
Caregivers are the unseen backbone of our healthcare system. In recognition of National Caregiver Month and its #CaregiverAware campaign, we are celebrating and raising awareness about the experience of caregivers in Canada.

Created in collaboration with caregiver support organizations across the country, the campaign is exploring some of the most pressing issues faced by caregivers, including impacts on mental health, work and care, young caregivers, and financial well-being. Join us in celebrating all that caregivers do throughout the month of May. To learn more about how you can participate, please visit Caregiver Aware 2023.

Webinar Replay: Tips for Effective Caregiver Communication
Caregivers navigate many relationships between the care recipient, healthcare professionals, family members, and others. Caregivers say they sometimes find it challenging communicating with the care team. Effective communication is essential for caregivers to support their care recipients and alleviate stress and anxiety. In this webinar, we learned practical communications skills from Dr. Naomi Gryfe Saperia to help advocate for those you care for – and yourself.
Connect with Another Caregiver through OCO’s 1:1 Peer Support

If you support someone in need and feel anxious and overwhelmed with your caregiving responsibilities, you’re not alone. The Ontario Caregiver Organization’s 1:1 Peer Support Program is here to help you.
