A Message from the Co-Chair

Dear Members,

I am pleased to report that I recently had the privilege of attending Rendez-vous, the annual national conference of the CHS. This year's event was held in Niagara Falls, and it was a wonderful opportunity for me to learn more about bleeding disorders and connect with other members of the hemophilia community.

At Rendez-vous, I attended a variety of informative sessions on the topics ranging from the latest research into treatments for bleeding disorders, to strategies for improving the quality of life for those with the conditions. I was particularly impressed by the dedication and commitment of the medical professionals and researchers who presented at the conference, and by their willingness to collaborate with the hemophilia community to find new and better treatments.

In addition to attending the educational sessions, I also had the opportunity to meet with fellow members of the CHS from across the country. It was inspiring to hear their stories and to learn about the challenges and successes they have experienced in managing their own bleeding disorders or those of their loved ones.

As we continue our work in Alberta, I am excited to bring back the knowledge and insight I gained at Rendez-vous and to apply them to our efforts to support those affected by bleeding disorders in our own community. I am also committed to working with the CHS to ensure that voices and concerns of members are heard at the National level.

Thank you for your continued support of the CHS Alberta Chapter. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by bleeding disorders.

Sincerely,

Hillary Wapple

Co-Chair of the CHS Alberta Chapter

Important Notices

The hemophilia community has been waiting for gene therapy for years. Many have hoped it

would be a cure. In the past few years, we have started to see promising results from the late

stages of clinical trials for gene therapy in both hemophilia A and B.

In Case You Missed It

We can’t foresee emergencies, but we can make sure that we’re ready for them when they occur. As you may know, the emergency departments across the country, especially pediatric ones, are struggling with staff shortages and a wave of patients with respiratory issues.

If you need to go to the emergency department for a bleed or any other issue, there are chances that you may be redirected to a different hospital than the one you are used to.

Make sure you carry your FactorFirst card to share important information about your treatment.

Talk to your nurse if you, or your child, need an updated FactorFirst card.
