Advocacy Update

Last month, representatives of CADDRA and CADDAC met with Manitoba Minister of Mental Health and Community Wellness, Janice Morley-Lecomte (pictured) to request more resources for ADHD assessment and treatment and for her support of the Private Members Bill C-329. 

Both organizations presented their joint Action Plan: Creating Equitable Access to ADHD Care in Canada. CADDRA was represented by Dr. Joan Flood (Advocacy Committee Chair), Dr. Cara Katz (Winnipeg-based child and adolescent psychiatrist and CADDRA member), and Niamh McGarry (CADDRA Executive Director).

We encourage CADDRA members to email your Federal MP asking them to support this Private Member’s Bill. Please feel free to use this sample template.

Summer Job Opportunity

We are seeking a Program Assistant – Education for a full-time (35 hours/week) position for 8 weeks with an anticipated start date after May 8, 2023. Payment is $19 an hour. This is an online position but there is an option to be in the Toronto office twice a week.

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs grant.

• Knowledge translation of ADHD literature for medical, research and healthcare professionals
• ADHD literature reviews and summaries for medical and healthcare audience
• Contributing to the CADDRA ADHD Research Digest

• Collaborating effectively with team members to accomplish these goals.

2023 Keynote Speaker

Timothy E. Wilens, M.D. will be the Keynote Speaker at ADHD Research Day and at the CADDRA conference. Dr. Wilens is chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and co-director of the Center for Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is the MGH Trustees Chair in Addiction Medicine and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include the relationship among ADHD, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders; embedded health care models, and the pharmacotherapy of ADHD across the lifespan. Dr. Wilens has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles concerning these and related topics. He has also coedited more than 80 book chapters, 4 books, and 300 abstracts and presentations for national and international scientific meetings. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is on the editorial boards or is a scientific reviewer for more than 35 journals.

Local Organizing Committee

The committee provides on-the-ground feedback and local insights by:

• Reviewing the conference website
• Identifying provincial organizations that may assist in promoting the meeting
• Identifying potential local exhibitors and supporters
• Contributing to a "what to do in Montreal" guide for delegates
• Identifying venue options for the Speaker and Member dinner
• Advising on how to bring a “Quebec” flavour to CADDRA 2023!
