Prentice Institute – City of Lethbridge Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Pilot

Prentice Institute Research Assistant Joshua Passey recently gave a presentation titled "Gender and Sexuality in the Northern Border Peoples of Ancient Rome" at the 2023 History in the Making Conference hosted by Concordia University in Montreal. Joshua graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in History and Psychology. Joshua is currently a Master's student in the Ancient Societies and Cultures program at the University of Alberta. His work with the Institute has been focused on historiography of populism in Alberta legislation.

Prentice Institute Research Assistant Ogochukwu Onyeso and Institute Affiliate Dr. Oluwagbohunmi Awosoga were among 12 co-authors who recently published an article titled "Influence of well-being and quality of work-life on quality of care among healthcare professionals in southwest, Nigeria" in Scientific Reports.

Meet the new Prentice Institute Research Analyst, Lisa-Marie Swanepoel


Lisa-Marie's background is in Public Health and Epidemiology. She completed her bachelor's and Master’s in Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge. Her master’s thesis specifically looked at childhood adversity's impact on pregnancy outcomes from a life course perspective. Lisa-Marie completed her thesis under the supervision of Dr. Cheryl Currie. While busy with her master's she worked in the Social Epidemiology in Action Lab. Outside of academia, Lisa-Marie was employed by Alberta Health Services to help vulnerable populations obtain government identification.


Her journey with the Institute began as a part-time research assistant working on a project focused on the impact of loneliness on economic outcomes under Dr. Boco. She is excited about her new role at the institute.

ORIS Announces Three New Internal Funding Opportunities




  • The Tri-Agency Catalyst Fund has also been revamped to remove the application deadline. Applications for all 3 opportunities may be submitted at any time throughout the year. Applications will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual budget is depleted.

The Prentice Institute accepts applications for affiliation year-round. Affiliates are eligible to apply for a variety of grant funds offered by the Institute.

Government of Alberta Approves Planning for Centre for Research & Innovative Care


On April 26th it was announced that Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, the University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation has begun planning to build a “Centre for Research & Innovative Care” on site at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) and the Intersections of Gender Signature Area at the University of Alberta are presenting Thinking Qualitatively: Doing Intersectionality (TQ:DI) - the 21st annual Thinking Qualitatively conference.
