I sincerely hope that everyone is having a wonderful spring and a strong finish to the 2022-2023 school year. It is hard to believe that we are in the month of May and schools will finish this school year in a few weeks.
It is time to focus our attention on plans for CMEA in 2023-2024 and plans are beginning to take shape for our next Conference. Below is important information regarding submitting a proposal to present at the 2024 conference, submitting a recording to be considered as a 2024 Honor Performing Ensemble at the annual conference, or nominating someone for a CMEA Honor Award. Information, timelines, and the links for these submissions are now available.
Early bird registration for the 2024 conference opens on August 1, 2023. Make sure that you register early to secure the lowest registration rates. The CMEA board is not increasing conference rates for CMEA Active/Retired/ or Collegiate members for the 2024 conference.

I hope your year is finishing as you want it to. For some, it is "pedal to the metal", while others have a check-off-the-boxes approach. There is nothing wrong with either one. You decide what works for you.
I have had numerous people ask me about the workload for having a Tri-m Chapter. My answer is as stated above. You decide what works best for you and your students. Our chapter tries to meet every other week before school. Many chapters meet during lunch or after school. You decide what works best. The meetings may be student-run with officers leading the discussion or with the chapter sponsor. The important thing is to give the students an opportunity to come together and share their passion for music with each other.
I found some nice Tri-M ribbons at the NAFME online store.
I think they are a perfect end-of-the-year recognition. If you put names in your programs do you acknowledge your Tri-M students? Let the concert attendees know a chapter exists at your school. Have your chapter design your program.
The window opens on May 1st to submit proposals for CMEA 2024. What can you offer for Tri-M Day? Please consider submitting a proposal. Our students love attending the convention. They love learning about composition, conducting, SEL, and interactive sessions. What can you bring to the table for our students?

All-State and Clinic/Conference Medals and
Solo/Ensemble Festival Medals
Did you know that you can purchase CMEA Solo and Ensemble Awards even if you did not attend a CHSAA Solo and Ensemble Festival? If you hosted a regional Solo and Ensemble Festival or a county or district festival you can still order CMEA Solo and Ensemble medals.
Have you participated in a CHSAA Large Group Festival and put off ordering the award plaque? You can still order plaques for past festivals.
Did you have students in All-State Jazz Band, All-State Jazz Choir, All-State Orchestra, or the Elementary, Middle School, or High School All-State Choirs? If you did this might be a great time to honor these students with an All-State Medal. You can order these medals for your students and have them shipped directly to your home address. This is a great way to recognize your students for their accomplishments.
Have you thought about stocking up on Solo and Ensemble Medals, All-State Medals, or Clinic/Conference Performing Group medals? This might be a good time to spend any remaining budget dollars to stock up on these medals before your funds run out.
