Dear Friends,
Jeff Tipp PSN has decided to retire from active teaching with our Blue Heron Zen Community, and we'd like to acknowledge and applaud all that he has done for our sangha, not the least of which is that he started it, quite a while back!
In so many ways, Jeff PSN has exemplified the qualities that we often describe as necessary for practice -- great courage (to start us off!), great determination (he had a hand in developing so many aspects of our Zen Center; some of you may not know, for example, that he personally chose our beautiful bell in Korea and arranged to have sent home to us), and great trust in the dharma. As many of us know, he has been one of our most committed practitioners, having practiced meditation for over 40 years. We bow in gratitude, and wish him great peace and joy in this next chapter of his life. The following is a message from Jeff psn directly:
My recent absence from online practice due to the Covid symptoms I've had over the past year, marks a new chapter in my relation to Blue Heron.
In 1985 ,when I invited Zen Master Seung Sahn to Seattle and the three retreats he lead in those early years, inspired me to establish Blue Heron Zen Community in my home.
I am remembering the retreats on Vashon Island at Camp Sealth and the cabin Tom Campbell and I built for solo retreats that benefited so many. The 9 Day retreats were another innovation that has grown in full attendance over the years.
Now, at the age of 76, I wish to remain only as Teacher Emeritus, dedicated to the well-being of all who walk the trackless path of Zen. Today I feel grateful for all I have experienced in my practice, while remaining in the ongoing inquiry, "What Am I?”.
Jeff Tipp, JDPSN
