PMINYC Honors AAPI Heritage Month!

Welcome to May, PMINYC Community, a special month for celebrating the rich and diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. From trailblazing leaders in politics, science, and the arts, to the everyday contributions of AAPI individuals and communities, this is an opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact and resilience of AAPI Americans.

At PMINYC, we understand the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the unique perspectives and experiences that AAPI individuals bring to our organization. We take great pride in recognizing and paying tribute to the numerous ways in which AAPI professionals have contributed to the enrichment of the project management community.

Currently, there is a lack of dashboard coverage by experts. There is data visualization, which focuses on static graphs, and there is UX / UI design, which includes interactivity but focuses more on web and app development.

To make the best executive dashboard, project managers must combine data visualization techniques with UX / UI principles as well as understand the business domain.

APRIL RESULTS

You voted. We listened.

As we continue to explore the creation of a members-only section for the website, your input is invaluable.  We now know you prefer to only have your LinkedIn profile published and that you are seeking a variety of new services as the majority of you voted for all the services to be added. We want to make sure that the experience is tailored to your needs and interests so expect further questions in the future as we continue to develop the requirements for this new member feature.

INTRODUCING

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Kim Beynon, PMP, CPA, CGMA

PMINYC President, Board Director, Executive Coach and Speaker

To our PMINYC Community,

Thank you to everyone who completed the April Pulse Survey, your responses were very helpful. In addition to the results published in the survey section of this newsletter, we received a number of write-in responses which we are looking to incorporate into the membership site. In the meantime, I would like to point you in the direction of resources that address some of those comments.

We had a number of questions about providing mentors – we have a flourishing mentoring program (apparently not well advertised) led by Nick Aprigliano. See link below:

PMINYC MENTORING

Another person asked for more tips and techniques in new technologies such as AI, data analytics, data migration, ITOM, etc. The topic of the chapter meeting on May 17th is “Data Visualization - the Search for the Perfect Dashboard” and the July 19th meeting is focused on "Web3, NFTs and Project Management?"; please see:

Data Visualization & the Search for the Perfect Dashboard
Web3, NFTs and Project Management?

As we continue to focus on building our community, I would like to ask for your input again in the May survey. Last year, we hosted a member appreciation event on August 4th – the sold-out harbor lights cruise. The Chapter subsidizes the event to show our appreciation for our members. We want to make sure that the money is well spent, and it is an event that you want to attend so we will be asking some questions in the May Pulse Survey to get your input on this year’s event.

PMI Culture Values

I also want to share with you the recently introduced Culture Values from PMI Global, co-created by the PMI Community, that drive how we volunteer, work, and collaborate and which represent our commitment to each other and to the project management community.

These values underlie everything we do! As we seek to build a better community together, please keep them in mind so our interactions are positive and empowering!

Make It Easy

We are easy to deal with.

When things slow us down, we find a better way.

We prioritize the impact that matters most and take the most direct route to it.

Aim Higher

We set the standard in top quality work to create the greatest impact for the PMI community.

We lead the way by thinking long-term and acting in the short-term.

We fearlessly take ownership of what we do, knowing every action counts.

Be Welcoming

We create genuine belonging for all, because our differences make us stronger.

We act with humanity, showing care, empathy and respect for others’ needs.

We assume good intent and seek to understand, not judge.

Embrace Curiosity

We are always seeking ways to better serve the PMI community.

We see challenges as opportunities to innovate, and take them.

We feel able to fail fast in order to get it right.

Together We Can

We build deep, trusting relationships that help us work towards our mission together.

We use our shared purpose to unite us as a community and drive us forward to create impact.

We act in alignment with our global goals, while being empowered to deliver locally.

Now that the beautiful weather has finally arrived in NYC, I hope you are all out enjoying it and looking forward to an exciting and fun summer ahead!

I am listening.

Until next month…

Kind regards

Kim
