Dear RBUSD Staff and Families,

 

Happy Staff Appreciation! Please join me in thanking our wonderful staff for their dedication and deep sense of care for RBUSD students and each other. It is never too late to send a simple "Thank you" to a staff member who has had an impact on your student(s) or family. And now, let’s celebrate. We’ve accomplished a lot this year and we would like to share some highlights, many of which are related to our five Strategic Plan goals.

Washington Elementary wins the Battle of the Books for the first time!

Washington Battle Botz Robotics team attends the California State Robotics competition and wins 1st place at the regional competition!

  • Elementary schools successfully complete year-two implementation of Wit & Wisdom, a high quality, literacy-based language arts curriculum.
  • Second Step, a social emotional program, is implemented at all eight elementary schools.

RBUSD students participated in the

Invention Convention National Competition

Only 60 students in California were selected out of the 538 entries.

Of those 60, 10 were RBUSD!

Art Award

Lucy, a 4th grader at Lincoln, was the 2024 West Basin “Being Water Wise Is…” Division III Grand Prize winner for her original art.

And that's not all...


  • 75 English learners from across the district re-classified to English proficient this school year.
  • Elementary teachers engaged in a whole-district professional development to support the needs of English learners.

Parras won the Esports Championship!

Adams saw an excellent turnout for their 3rd annual Health and Wellness festival hosted by the PTA. 

Music & Sports News


  • Two bands from Adams and three bands from Parras participated at Forum Music Festival. All five groups received a gold rating, meaning judges rank them in the top 10 percentile based on a national standard.
  • Outstanding section awards were given to the rhythm section for Adams Jazz Band, the Flute section for Parras Chamber Winds, and the Trumpet section for Parras Wind Symphony. 

Parras flag football went to the championship game.



Adams formed its inaugural Girls Flag Football team. 


Thanks to the PTSA and RBEF!


Thanks to these organizations, each grade level at Adams and Parras was enriched with opportunities such as Women in Tech Seminar, science camps, career day, American Heart Challenge, 6th grade Greek Day, 7th Grade Renaissance Day, and 8th Grade Museum of Tolerance.

Parras Opens Wellness Center


Parras will celebrate the grand opening of its Wellness Center the week of May 20 with donations from the PTA to create a warm and inviting environment for students.

  • Meanwhile, Adams counselors continued to enhance their Wellness Center and support families with resources and connection to South Bay Families Connected (SBFC).

RUHS is a Top U.S. School


Redondo Union High School is among the best in the country, according to 2024 ranking from U.S. News & World Report


Redondo Union ranks 133 (out of 2,616) in California and 1,007 in the nation.

RUHS is named #1 Football Student Section in LA County again! 

The Arts


  • Theater Arts puts on Broadway-worthy productions of Lost Girls and Beauty and the Beast.
  • RUHS Jazz Band receives 2nd place in the Advanced High School Division.

  • Cheer wins at National Cheer Competition in their first-time ever competing at that level.
  • Girls Flag Football are CIF Bay League Champions.
  • The Beach Cities Robotics team placed 2nd at the FIRST World Championship competition, held in Houston, TX.
  • Girls Cross Country, Softball, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball are Bay League Champions.
  • RUHS Mock Trial teams made it to the top 16 for all LA County, out of approximately 85 teams.
  • RUHS Academic Decathlon team placed 4th in the regional competition and 22nd in the state out of 500 teams.

And that's not all...


  • RUHS senior Victor Marquez receives the ACSA Region 14 Every Student Succeeds Award.
  • RBUSD wins Model Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) Program award – RBUSD improves its average daily attendance by nearly 1%, which is excellent.

Patricia Dreizler Continuation School


Patricia Dreizler High School wins Model Continuation High School. 

Parent Education Seminars


  • The Special Education Department hosts a well-received assistive technology training for parents of students with disabilities where parents receive hands-on training for tools to support student learning.


  • The Nest college counselor at RUHS hosted a well-attended "Early Planning for College" presentation which outlined the importance of creating an academic and financial “right fit” plan when planning for college, even as early as elementary school… more to come on this topic next school year.
