May 2024 | The Hill Institute Newsroom

Friends and champions of innovation,

While the school year may be wrapped up, I’m definitely not done learning. From hosting insightful thought leadership forums to gearing up for a summer full of new student and community impacts, I continue to grow every day from the incredible talent I’m surrounded by here at Furman University, the Greenville, SC community, and beyond.

There are a couple of items in particular that stand out to our whole team I wanted to highlight:

Earlier this month, we were honored to host top leaders from Amazon, PRISMA Health, SCbio, Hank.ai, JENNO.co, and Furman’s very own Institute for the Advancement of Community Health to dive into how AI is transforming the future of healthcare. The room was full of exciting and challenging discussion points as well as meaningful networking that truly convened our community.

As we gear up to launch our Summer Business Innovation Boot Camp, I could not be more thrilled for how some especially unique elements of this summer experience are coming together. We’ll be working with silicon valley founders (now turned Greenville founders…), the leading Femtech wearables venture, and the City of Greenville’s newly launched economic development corporation. This is the epicenter of student and community impacts we strive for – you’ll want to stay tuned for more on this.

As always, thank you to so many of you whose time and support makes all this possible!

Let’s keep building together,

Bryan Davis

Executive Director

Past Month Overview

Advantage Greenville: How AI is Transforming Healthcare

Artificial Intelligence continues to make its way into nearly every aspect of our lives, but perhaps none more transformational than within the healthcare field. Earlier this month, we had the privilege of hosting leaders from across the state of South Carolina in various healthcare sectors as they explored the impact artificial intelligence is having on patient care, medical research, ethical considerations, and more.

We extend our sincere gratitude once more to our distinguished speakers—James Chappel, PhD, Patrick Springhart, MD, James Wiggins, Jack Neil, MD, Jennifer Oladipo, and Kerry Sease, MD —for sharing their insights on the significant opportunities and challenges ahead for the future of AI in healthcare.
