Message from Dean Egerstedt

A university has many “front doors” through which people arrive and engage in campus life. In the UC Irvine Samueli School of Engineering, homecoming and Hall of Fame are major front doors for our alumni. Senior design review welcomes our industrial partners. Last month's Celebrate UCI for admitted students was a wide-open entryway that brought over 2,000 people to our part of campus. Lately, I have been thinking about alternative front doors. Connections to the arts could be one such portal and on May 19, we hold our second annual E-SONIC new instrument competition in collaboration with the UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts and the Pacific Symphony. The event showcases our students’ new never-before-seen musical instruments. If last year is any indication, this will be a loud and exciting celebration of our students’ creativity. You don't want to miss it!

Best,

Magnus Egerstedt, Ph.D.
