Message from Mayor Mike Brannon
As we welcome May, I want to again welcome our new Community Officer, Deputy Josh Whitlock to our Town. Deputy Whitlock was introduced in our April Town Council Meeting and he took the opportunity to share information on his background. As you see him in your neighborhood or around our Town, please say hello and welcome him to Bermuda Run.
It was great to see so many people from our Town as well as County leaders, Fire & EMS representatives, and many others join us for our Flags at the Blue Heron Trail flag raising ceremony. This flag plaza is yet another connection on our Blue Heron Trail—made possible by volunteers led this project, residents who purchased etched pavers, business sponsors and our Town Council and staff.
A special thank you to Davie County Veterans Services, VFW Post 8719, and DAV Chapter 75 for conducting the formal flag raising ceremony. Thank you to Vice Chair of the Davie County Board of Commissioners, Benita Finney for singing our National Anthem and leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Because it is important to me that you are connected to those who lead your Town, from time to time I will ask members of our Town Council to contribute their thoughts as part of this monthly message. So, Council Member Rae Nelson has graciously agreed to be the first to share her thoughts in this month’s message.
Message from Council Member Rae Nelson
Mike, thank you for the opportunity to share a few thoughts about important events in our town like last week’s Flags at the Blue Heron Trail ceremony.
As Mayor Brannon noted, last Tuesday, April 22nd, marked a meaningful milestone for the Town of Bermuda Run with the inaugural flag raising at the Flags at the Blue Heron Trail plaza. This landmark—featuring the U.S., North Carolina, and Davie County flags—now stands as a proud, illuminated eastern gateway to our Town and Davie County.
The plaza also includes dozens of engraved pavers, each telling its own story—honoring loved ones, commemorating special moments, and connecting generations. A heartfelt thank you to the many who brought this vision to life: the exemplary volunteers of the Vision Committee, generous supporters, Fuller Construction, and the generosity of WinMock at Kinderton.
As a resident since 1996, it has been a true honor to serve on the Town Council over the past 16 months. Each day brings new opportunities to learn, listen, and serve. As our Town continues to grow and evolve, it’s more important than ever to have voices representing all corners of our community. If you're interested in learning more about this rewarding role, please reach out to the Mayor or any Council member—we are glad to connect!
Thank you,
Mike & Rae
