It is hard to imagine that a third of the year has already passed! This past month seems to have gone by even quicker than most in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. After numerous work sessions with the various Village departments and committees, the 2025-2026 Village Budget was adopted by the Board of Trustees. The budget provides for no tax rate increase for the second time in three years, while maintaining all vital Village services. Funding has also been provided for two new positions in the Village: an assistant building inspector for the Engineering Department and a laborer for the Dept. of Public Works. The budget also provides for a robust capital plan for Village infrastructure and equipment. The adopted budget can be found in full on our website; hard copies will be made available at the Croton Free Library and Municipal Building when printed.

The Dept. of Public Works has been hard at work beautifying the RiverWalk and adjacent areas this week. The lampposts along Half Moon Bay Drive and Elliott Way are getting a fresh coat of paint, while sections of Half Moon Bay Drive have been milled and paved this week after a particularly rough winter season. A 150-foot section of the RiverWalk at Croton Landing was also repaved this week; a combination of tree roots gradually uplifting the walkway and tides from the river washing away the ground underneath necessitated this work. As the weather warms, I hope all residents will be able to visit our waterfront parks and enjoy these great amenities in our Village.

Earlier this month, the Village had a traffic engineering firm adjust the timing of the lights on Croton Point Avenue. This work, which was paid for by the 1 Croton Point Avenue development firm, required the approval of, and coordination with, New York State Dept. of Transportation, as they own and operate two of the traffic signals along the roadway. Traffic in the area was monitored during both the morning and evening rush hours on multiple days by the engineers. The timing of the lights was adjusted accordingly based on the conditions observed. These adjustments should hopefully help commuters making their way to and from the train station.  

Some quick updates regarding other projects in the Village:

• Dobbs Park: Comments on the replacement/renovation of the Dobbs Park playground and basketball court continue to be accepted through Sunday, May 4. Please use the Village’s Send Us Comments form (select Dobbs Park) to share your thoughts.
• Quaker Bridge Replacement: Westchester County has begun the process of environmental review for the project known as SEQR. It is expected that the Village’s Water Control Commission and Waterfront Advisory Committee will be involved in this review process. You can sign up for agendas from these bodies by clicking here.
• 325 South Riverside: Demolition of the old Umami/Maracas building took place this week. The Village Board is still reviewing the special permit application from Save-Mor Pharmacy to construct a new building in its place. A traffic study of the area was requested and has not yet been completed.
• Solar Canopies at the Train Station: Work from the general contractor is gradually winding down. The canopies are expected to begin flowing power into the grid sometime in June.
• Route 9A: There are two projects ongoing along Route 9A (also known as North Riverside Avenue and Albany Post Road). NYSDOT is going to be repaving the roadway this spring; prior to that, work must be done on the catch basins and sidewalk ramps along the roadway. Con Edison is also replacing a gas main on the roadway between Old Post Road North and Prickly Pear Hill Road. While Con Edison is working during the daytime hours, the work being done by NYSDOT is during the nighttime hours.
