Long Point Ratepayers’ Association Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM will be held at the Port Rowan Community Centre Saturday, June 14. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., the meeting commences at 10:00 a.m. Free coffee and treats will be provided. We encourage all members to attend.
Two long-serving Directors, each with 10+ years of volunteering on the Board, will not seek another term in office. Three Directors whose terms expire will be seeking re-election. If you are interested in a position on the Board, we ask that you forward your letter of interest to info@longpointrpa.com soon.
Due to time constraints, we will have only one guest speaker, Ward 1 Councillor Tom Masschaele. There will be three display tables comprising the Long Point Bird Observatory, the North Shore Resilience Littoral Group, and the Long Point Basin Land Trust. The AGM package including the agenda and financials was emailed to members June 2. Mail out packages to members remain an uncertainty with a potential Canada Post Strike.
Included in the AGM package will be the results from our LPRA membership survey. Thanks to the over 200 members who responded and to the survey creator, Director Lynette Horton who has spent countless hours organizing and compiling the data!

Rockin’ on the Point
Is there anyone out there who doesn’t know who the Beach Boys are? Well, you are in for a treat if your answer is “Who”?
Our 11th annual Rockin’ on the Point community fundraiser will be happening on Saturday, August 16, 4 – 7:30 pm, music scheduled to begin at 4.20 to 7:00 at 20 Old Cut Blvd. We are hoping for an ‘Encore’. The band will be Beach Bash featuring all your Beach Boy favourites.
Tickets are $20 each and will be available for purchase at our AGM June 14, from LPRA Directors, or at the door (if not already sold out). The Port Rowan Lions Club will be on-site to barbeque hotdogs and hamburgers at the event, so please bring your appetite and cash to support them. There will be a Silent Auction. If you have any items to donate they can be dropped off at 145 Woodstock Ave. Further details to follow via our LPRA Facebook and newsletters. Hope to see you there.

North Shore Resilience Program – Grass Planting/Erosion Project
You may have noticed some changes to the municipal pedestrian beach access at Austin Parkway and Beach Ave.
This is a Municipal Walkway Improvement pilot project under the Long Point Biosphere’s North Shore Resilience program (www.northshoreresilience.ca). The project was fully funded by the North Shore Resilience Project, under the Canada Water Agency, and is supported by neighbouring landowners, the County, and the MNRF who regulates the crown beach.
The project involves creating an “S-shaped” pathway from the Crown Land to Beach Ave through the installation of post and rope fencing. This path was designed to continue to allow municipal maintenance of in-blown sand through bulldozing and was constructed out of durable materials including laminated rope and cedar posts. This will be followed by the planting of native grass species, which include Great Lakes Beach Grass, Little Bluestem, Switch Grass, and Indian Grass planted behind the fences. These are the natural grass species associated with dune ecosystems, and they will allow the building of small dunes along the exterior of the path.
These dunes and grasses will reduce the amount of sand blowing into the municipal walkway, minimizing maintenance costs. The dunes will also protect the surrounding homes from in-blown sand, as well as the Cottonwoods at the end of the path with exposed root systems that threaten their survival. This is an example of a “Nature Based Solution” which supports improved biodiversity in the area.

Long Point Paid Parking
· The Resident Paid Parking Permits (cost $35) are available through HotSpot Parking as of June 2nd, 2 weeks ahead of paid parking starting back up again on June 15th.
· A Resident Permit can be used for up to 4 hours a day in any paid parking area (Port Dover, Turkey Point, and Long Point).
· A parking enforcement officer will be on duty in each paid parking area from June 15th through Labour Day, including at Long Point.
· In Long Point, NC is in the process of enhancing the Abigail Becker lot by adding some additional parking on the roadway, including at least one Accessibility.

Speed Limit
Just a friendly reminder that the speed limit at Long Point is now 40 for all Long Point streets unless otherwise posted. Please note, after Labour Day the posted speed for Erie Blvd. will return to 50.

Tree Planting on the Causeway
As reported at our AGM 2024, the LPRA Board was anticipating entering into discussions with NC staff regarding the tree replacement and possible landscaping along the Causeway once the paving project was completed. Unfortunately, while our expectations were high, no meetings were held. We have followed up with staff who have responded with the following:
February 25 - There was some outreach to landowners along the Causeway and some landowners on Hwy 59 N of Lakeshore Road and Hastings Drive adjacent to the Causeway. Some of the outreach was delayed significantly by the postal strike. The responses were relatively light. Approximately 11 trees required planting on private property.
April 30 – The picture (shown below) indicates where trees are being planted in the Long Point/Port Rowan area. Trees being planted on or very near the Causeway are highlighted. These are all locations where people responded to the solicitation about planting trees.
As agreed at AGM 2024, the County was offered up to $15,000. in LPRA funds to enhance the tree planting/landscaping program along the Causeway. After developing their plan, the County recommended that we may better use these funds on another LPRA project. Based on this and limited property along the Causeway to implement further successful plantings, we will not pursue this further at this time. This topic and the related funding motion passed at AGM 2024 are on the agenda for discussion at the AGM 2025.
