May 2025

Lower Providence Library News!

Happy May, Friends!

I'm not going to lie, I love May, and it is probably my favorite month of the entire year, After months of the cold, grey winter, the world has come back to life. At the library, we are starting to prepare for this year's summer reading, setting up our Beanstack Challenges, booking new and fun programs for everyone to enjoy, and stocking up on beach reads and summer reading books. I don't know about you, but I am spending as much time outside as possible, including reading in the sunshine!

How are you spending the best month of the year?

Tickets for our Spring Raffle Baskets are available at the library and online till the end of the day, Saturday, May 3. Thank you to everyone who has already purchased tickets; all proceeds benefit the library.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to win one of these amazing baskets and support the library!

It has been a couple of months since I talked about what I've been reading, partially because nothing has truly excited me. However, in April, I read two non-fiction books that I LOVED! First, Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. Known for his Young Adult Fiction (I have read 4 of his YA Novels), Everything is Tuberculous is about just what the title says, Tuberculosis, and how the disease has impacted human history, and how it is still impacting people around the world today. Second, The Small and the Mighty by Sharon McMahon. We all know Martin Luther King Jr. and Susan B. Anthony, and how they impacted major civil rights movements in the United States. However, there are so many more influential individuals whose impact we still feel today in the United States. Sharon McMahon beautifully (and with some humor) tells the stories of 12 people who fought for not just their civil rights, but for those around them as well.

I hope you all have the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine this month!

Happy reading, and see you at the library!
