HERE’S HOPING SUMMER’S HERE TO STAY!
Lovely days with ample sunshine mean good times are in store! Bikes, boats, tennis, pickleball or a stroll in Lovelady Park may be on your agenda. Enjoy this long awaited season.
A couple of reminders...there is an election coming up next week: Tuesday, June 16 is election day for your local officeholders. There are three of us running for another 2 year term, and we are all running unopposed. Deputy Mayor Claas Abraham, Parks Commish Dianne Skilbred and myself are up for election this year. Polls are open from 12 noon til 9 pm. Even though there are no opposing candidates, please consider stopping by Village Hall on Tuesday the 16th, say hello to our elections staff, and cast a supportive vote for us. We would be most appreciative!
For the past 2 years we have been trying diligently to secure a parcel of land opposite Lovelady Park and adjacent to 7 acres of preserved land bordering Barclay Drive. The Community Preservation Fund approved the acquisition almost 2 years ago, but we needed the Board of North Haven Point to forgive the maintenance fees, which required a majority vote of the homeowners. Most unfortunately, the owner understandably ran out of patience and the parcel has been sold to a developer. I continue to seek candidates for open land preservation, to complement Lovelady, Cilli Field and 10 Ferry Road. Suggestions are always welcome.
Speaking of 10 Ferry Foad, the Southampton Town Parks Department will begin work shortly creating pathways to the shoreline, as well as the removal of the invasive weeds and vines, a newly seeded lawn and a dozen spots for parking. I have asked the work be completed for the 4th of July weekend, and I am assured it will be. North Haven’s Hog Neck Beach will be alive and well on America’s 250th birthday!
Our long serving Building Inspector. George Butts, retired after many years of service. At a meeting held on June 2, the Board of Trustees appointed Chris Talbot as Interim Building Department Consultant. Chris has served as Sr. Building Inspector for both Sag Harbor and Southampton Villages. He will assist the Village on a part-time basis; the combined efforts of Chris and our building clerk and Code Enforcement officer, Erika Gubitosi, will ensure continuity of operations and support for residents, applicants, and ongoing Building Department activities while the Village completes the transition to new leadership within the Department.
The Board, on behalf of all the residents of our Village, extends its sincere appreciation to George Butts for his many years of dedicated service to the Village of North Haven and wishes him a well-earned retirement. Thanks and Congratulations, George!
Due to a conflict with the election, our next Board of Trustees meeting has been scheduled for June 11, 2026 at 5 PM in person and on Zoom. Please join us!!
