What to Expect at ICR 2026

The International Congress of Radiology (ICR) 2026, May 14–16 in Cartagena, Colombia, will bring together the global radiology community for a dynamic program spanning clinical practice, innovation, and the future of imaging care. With parallel tracks covering all major subspecialties alongside cross-cutting themes such as emerging technology, education, and radiology service management, the meeting reflects both the breadth of the field and its rapidly evolving role in health care. The full program is available here

The International Society of Radiology (ISR) plays a central role in shaping the congress, with programming that highlights its core mission: advancing access to high-quality, safe, and equitable imaging worldwide. This leadership is reflected in three major ISR-led tracks on AI, quality and safety, and improving imaging access. >>Read more.

Recent Meetings

ISR at the IAEA

The International Atomic Energy Agency held its Technical Meeting on Artificial Intelligence and Radiation Protection in Medicine on April 8-10 in Vienna. Several talks were given on behalf of the ISR.

International Organizations' Recent and Future AI Activities

In a session on “International Organizations' Recent and Future AI Activities,” ISR President B. Allen presented ISR’s strategies for preparing the workforce for safe imaging, particularly in low-resourced settings, leveraging the ISR’s educational resources and activities of the ISR Quality and Safety Alliance. Dr. Allen highlighted the role of AI as a new opportunity for radiation protection, particularly in settings with limited workforce, and concluded that the ISR, through its global partnerships, is well positioned to lead the necessary educational efforts to ensure access to safe and effective life-saving medical imaging for all patients, no matter where they live.

When is AI “Ready” for Radiation Protection of Patients?

Also at the meeting, Professor Karim Lekadir gave a talk on behalf of the ISR, "When is AI ‘Ready’ for Radiation Protection of Patients?”

He first introduced a definition of AI readiness based on the FUTURE-AI international guideline, which states that AI systems should be fair, universal, traceable, usable, robust, and explainable. Drawing on examples from radiology AI, he illustrated that systems can achieve high accuracy while still failing in critical aspects such as bias, generalisability, or transparency. >>Read more.
