Rising Together: Building Stronger Clubs, Stronger Leaders
Dear Toastmasters,
There are moments in every Toastmaster’s journey when we have to decide what kind of impact we want to leave behind. As we move through the next two months, this is our opportunity to take intentional and meaningful steps to leave ourselves, and our clubs, in better circumstances than we found them.
One of the greatest strengths of Toastmasters is that it was never designed to be a solo journey. It is a communal learning laboratory where every speech, every evaluation, every role, and every encouraging conversation helps shape the growth of everyone around us. What you put into Toastmasters never benefits just one person. It creates momentum for the entire club.
Communities that work together are powerful because they understand a simple truth: when we help others get what they want, we move closer to what we want as well. When we mentor a new member, we sharpen our leadership. When we encourage someone to give their first speech, we strengthen the culture of courage within our club. When we volunteer, recruit, evaluate, or simply show up consistently, we create an environment where everyone rises together.
For clubs with lower membership numbers, this is especially important. Now is the time to let the people around you know that your club is there to serve their development needs. There are countless individuals searching for confidence, communication skills, leadership growth, and connection. Toastmasters offers all of those things, but people cannot benefit from what they do not know exists.
A healthy club creates opportunities for everyone. A club hovering around 20 members has enough people to successfully serve as club officers, enough members to comfortably fill weekly meeting roles, and enough speakers to consistently deliver the speeches we all look forward to hearing. That level of stability allows meetings to become more energetic, engaging, and impactful for every member involved.
Growth does not happen by accident. It happens because people decide to invest in one another.
I would also strongly encourage every club to send at least two members to the District 101 Annual Conference. Conferences are more than events, they are opportunities to network, learn, and bring fresh inspiration back to your home club. Some of the best ideas, friendships, and leadership breakthroughs happen in conversations between sessions or while connecting with members from other clubs.
Networking is one of the most powerful ways we grow. Every connection expands our perspective and reminds us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
We have so much we can accomplish together by locking arms and moving forward as one community. After all, a rising tide raises all ships.
So the question is simple:
Who is with me?
With gratitude and excitement,
Anna Garcia, DTM
District Director
