It’s May! It’s May! … as the Camelot song says. Even on Cape Cod, spring has finally arrived—and very welcome!
At ALL, May is finishing up this year’s classes and creating the catalogue of courses for the fall.
| | | |
May is also wrapping up our fiscal year and planning for what’s next as we embrace a new long-range plan. May is saying farewell to colleagues on the Board of Directors who have completed their second three-year term, and welcoming three new Board members.
And it is time to invite all our members to the Annual Meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, followed by a luncheon. The details of the invitation and luncheon are included in this newsletter. This is a wonderful time to hear all about ALL—past, present and future—to meet one another, and to thank and connect with the volunteers who help make our vibrant institution thrive.
I also invite you to become our ambassadors. Tell your family and friends about the courses and events that come with membership at ALL. If you’ve been enjoying the Academy, please share. Your word-of-mouth makes a real difference. We are especially interested in reaching those on the upper and lower Cape who may find it difficult to travel to Hyannis but could easily participate in our Zoom courses. We’re also exploring the possibility of hosting occasional events closer to them—wherever “up” or “down” the Cape may be!
Summer is not the time for classes. It is the time for family visits and taking advantage of the myriad summer activities on the Cape, from whale watching to miniature golf. And of course, the beach—using our special local knowledge to snag a parking place within walking distance of the Bay, the Sound, or even the ocean for the more ambitious. And along with other locals, using clever alternate roads to get wherever we are going.
Enjoy our beautiful summer. We’ll be staying in touch; then as that other song says, ”See you in September.“ Or, better yet, at the Annual Meeting!

Reflections 2026 Launch a Success!
| | | | |
On April 22nd, the Atrium of the Lorusso Technology Building’s floor to ceiling windows welcomed the warm spring sun.
It also welcomed a full audience ready to enjoy readings from contributors and conversations about the launch of Reflections 2026.
| | |
The publication is the result of eight months of preparation and review by the Reflections Team. It includes stories, poems, photography and artwork from ALL contributors sharing their wisdom, experience and imagination.
Now in its 26th publication, the 2026 edition of Reflections showcases the talent and creativity of 32 ALL members.
| | Thank you to the Reflections Team and the authors and artists for participating in Reflections 2026. And a special thanks to our emcee, Steve Anderson, for keeping the afternoon’s program moving along seamlessly. | | Thank You, Bryan McCormack for a Fascinating Talk! | |
On Friday, April 17th, over 30 ALL members gathered at the Wilkens Science Center for a fascinating look at our local landscape in “The Science Behind the Sand.”
Guest speaker Bryan McCormack, a specialist from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), shared an enlightening presentation on the dynamic forces of sand movement, erosion, and sea-level rise shaping our Cape towns today.
| |
It was an eye-opening morning that connected local coastal challenges with the world-class research happening right in our backyard. We were reminded of WHOI's incredible global legacy—from the exploration of the Titanic to pioneering deep-sea robotics—all while gaining a deeper appreciation for the science behind our beautiful, shifting shores!
A link to the presentation follows for those of you who were unable to attend or who would like to experience the presentation a second time.
| | Thank You, Once Again, for Your Contributions | | |
