May 2026 Edition

On April 22, 2026, the Village Board of Trustees adopted the 2026-2027 Village Budget. The adopted budget is under the New York State tax cap and maintains all vital Village services. An $8.2 million capital program was adopted as part of the budget, which will address numerous infrastructure projects and provide needed equipment to our Department of Public Works, Fire Department, EMS Department and Police Department. The adopted budget can be found in full on our website; hard copies will be made available at the Croton Free Library and Municipal Building when printed.

Some quick updates regarding projects in the Village:

1 Croton Point Avenue: The developer has provisionally secured the affordable home ownership program (AHOP) funding that was anticipated during the review of the project. The Village, developer, Metro-North Railroad and NYS Dept. of Transportation have worked collaboratively to finalize site development plans in regards to stormwater drainage. We continue to move towards the closing on the property sale, which is anticipated to occur during the summer.
Quaker Bridge Replacement: Westchester County has shared that the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is progressing and that the permit for the work will follow once the agreement is finalized. It is hard to give a timeline on how long the MOA process will take because it is contingent upon signatures from three independent agencies.
325 South Riverside: It is anticipated that the special permit application for 325 South Riverside for a mixed-use building will be coming back to the Planning Board at the end of the month. It has been held in abeyance while the Village Board deliberated on Local Law 5 of 2026 to correct the inconsistencies in the Village Code regarding special permits.
Solar Canopies at the Train Station: Con Edison continues to review the updated as-built design drawings so that permission to operate can be granted. Altus and Arevon, the current and former owners, are hoping to have this finished before the end of the month.
Half Moon Bay Bridge: The advance detail design plans have been submitted to the NYS Dept. of Transportation to review. Utility agreements have been sent to Verizon and Con Edison for their review. The draft railroad agreement has been sent to Metro-North Railroad for their review. I have contacted the appropriate governmental affairs teams to get the reviews expedited and the documents returned to keep the project on schedule.
Van Cortlandt Manor: I have received a number of questions regarding the work ongoing at Van Cortlandt Manor. Historic Hudson Valley is undertaking a project to upgrade some of the infrastructure at the historic landmark, as well as beautify the entrance to the site on South Riverside Avenue. While the Village is serving as municipal sponsor for this project, it is a private project being administered by Historic Hudson Valley and no village tax dollars are being spent on the project.

Reminder: Register for the Village's Rental Registry

In 2025, the Village Board of Trustees adopted Local Law No. 16 of 2025 to establish a rental registry in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Property owners renting all or a portion of their dwelling unit(s) must register before June 1, 2026, to avoid penalties. To download a copy of the landlord registration form, please click here.

Short-Term Rental Occupancy Tax Now in Effect

Operators of hotels, motels, and short-term rentals (STRs) in Croton-on-Hudson are responsible for collecting a 3% occupancy tax from occupants as a separate charge from the nightly room rent. Prior to collecting the occupancy tax, operators must file for a Certificate of Authority from the Village Treasurer. Please click here to register for the Certificate of Authority.

Arbor Day Ceremony

On April 24, 2026, in celebration of Arbor Day, Mayor Brian Pugh, Trustee Stacey Nachtaler and Westchester County Legislator Emiljana Ulaj helped DPW employee Robert Zattola, with the planting of a new Eastern Redbud tree in front of the Asbury Methodist Church. Trees were also planted along Grand Street at two locations.

Certified Tree Steward Program

Assistant Village Engineer Ron Wegner and Assistant Building Inspector Danalys Nazario recently completed the Certified Tree Steward Program conducted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Westchester County. This 39-hour course covered topics such as tree biology, tree identification, site assessment, weed science, plant pathology, tree climbing, soil science and more. The knowledge gained through this program will assist the Village in processing tree removal permits that are requested by residents as well as in assessing its public trees.

On April 20, a bench dedication ceremony took place at the Black Rock Dog Park. The bench was generously donated by Mike and Rob Macchia, owners of Capriccio Pizza & Restaurant, who provided the funds after learning of the need for seating at the park.

The event was attended by Mike and Rob Macchia, Village Trustees Maria Slippen and Stacey Nachtaler, Debi Braddick (Chairperson of the Recreation Advisory Committee), local dog park users, and other residents. Several speakers expressed their gratitude to the owners of Capriccio for their continued dedication and commitment to the Croton community. Emergency Services

Learn about the New Home for Croton EMS

Learn about the building of the new Croton EMS addition to the Harmon Firehouse and the positive impact it is already making in the community.

Volunteers are needed for both Emergency Medical Services and the Croton Volunteer Fire Department. Visit the Village website to learn how you can get involved.

Tri-County Law Enforcement Torch Run

On May 12, 2026, residents are invited to cheer on the Croton Police Department runners as they take part in the Tri-County Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics.

Officers will receive the torch from the Ossining Police Department at approximately 3:05 PM at the intersection of Croton Point Avenue and South Riverside Avenue. The route continues along South and North Riverside Avenues and Route 9A, ending at the northern Village line just south of Foodtown, where the torch will be passed to the next group of runners.

Residents are encouraged to gather anywhere along the route to show their support.

The Croton Police Department will cover the longest Westchester leg of the run, spanning approximately 4.7 miles. Visit the Village website calendar to learn more.

Public Works

Progress Continues at Dobbs Park!

Progress continues to be made at Dobbs Park. The new playground equipment was recently installed by the contractor. The Village is looking forward to this project finishing this month and the park reopening! In the meantime, please continue to stay outside the fenced-off area for your safety.

Road Work Notifications

As the weather warms up, road work will begin throughout the Village. To keep the community informed, the Village will continue to share updates on timing and locations on the Village website at crotononhudson-ny.gov. Hydrant Flushing Program – Spring 2026

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Water Department has begun the semi-annual hydrant flushing program. Flushing will be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The flushing program is expected to take six weeks to complete. Visit the Village website to learn more. The Boat Basin at Senasqua Park opens Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Moorings, park storage, Sunfish racks, and boat ramp passes are available near the Croton Sailing School (2 Elliott Way).
