We are currently in a drought with many water restrictions. The lakes are low, we can only water our grass one day a week at certain times, we cannot wash our cars, and we cannot do any pressure washing. Because of the drought, we have had to make adjustments in our daily lives.
Have you ever experienced a spiritual drought? It seems like our country is in the middle of one today.
Amos 8:11 says: “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.”
So how do we get out of a spiritual drought? What adjustments do we need to make?
First, we must get back to reading the Word of God and spending time alone with Him in prayer, communicating with the Creator of the universe. We also need to examine our lives and look for any sin that may be hindering our walk with Christ. If we find sin, we need to repent and turn back to Him wholeheartedly.
We also need to make sure we are taking time to physically rest and not running on fumes. Psalm 46:10 reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
In addition, we must make sure we are feeding the Spirit and not the flesh. Our default tendency is to feed the flesh, so if we are not intentionally feeding the Spirit, we are naturally moving in the wrong direction. That is why we must be careful about what we watch, what we listen to, and what we allow into our minds and hearts.
Philippians 4:8 says: "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things."
When we spend time with God, repent of our sins, feed the spirit, meditate on the right things, share the love of Jesus with others, and serve the church and our community in the name of Jesus, God will fill our tanks again and our spiritual drought will come to an end!
Jeremiah 31:25 says: “For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
Pray for God to rain down His love upon His children both physically and spiritually. May He refresh weary hearts, restore joy, and bring revival to our homes, churches, and communities.
