Mental Health and Exercise

Exercise and Mental Health

Exercise can support mental health in ways that go far beyond improving mood in the moment. Research suggests that regular movement may help reduce stress, strengthen emotional resilience, support brain function, and build a greater sense of confidence and self-awareness, especially when exercise becomes part of a consistent routine.

From walking and strength training to other forms of movement that challenge both body and mind, exercise may also support how we process emotions, connect with others, and respond to everyday stressors. Some research even suggests movement can help shift perspective during moments of mental or emotional stuckness, reinforcing the idea that physical activity can support not only personal well-being, but our relationships and sense of balance.

Taken together, these findings offer a broader reminder that exercise is not simply a tool for physical health, but an important practice for caring for the mind and supporting overall wellness. For more information on mental health and physical activity resources visit the Be Well at Work - Employee Assistance and Wellness webpages.
