Mary Magdalene Church is an inclusive church in the Catholic tradition where people from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to the Lord’s table. We strive to live the values that Jesus taught, to honor and respect each individual and to share the joy of God’s unconditional love in our community and beyond. | | Image by Alexander Van Steenberg - Unsplash | |
Greetings!
Last week a call came in to the church office from a local food pantry in a nearby town. The staff member from the pantry reported that with such a rise in food insecurity of late, they had run low on items and were unable to meet the needs of a client who had come in that morning. They received a referral— to us! Sue was able to call up the client, assure them that the food box out front was fully stocked as of that morning, and welcome the person to come by and take whatever they needed, no appointment or forms required.
What an honor for the church, that an agency thought of us to meet this need. That means word of the food box, and the reliability and nutritional value of its contents, is spreading beyond even East Rochester. We too have seen a huge uptick in recent weeks: things go very quickly and our cupboard of reserved items in the hall runs out fast. Thank you all so much for continuing to power this ministry, with your contributions of food items and with your love.
From my late cherished partner in ministry, Fr. Jim Callan, I picked up a phrase referencing the Feeding of the 5000 that I sometimes use in the Eucharistic Prayer on Sunday: “we remember that when people were hungry, [Jesus] fed them, no matter where they came from or what language they spoke.” My soul feels such a deep gladness that this is what we are doing through this ministry: simply feeding anyone who is hungry, no questions asked.
With love and gratitude,
—Rev. Celie

Music Notes
Last Sunday (Ascension Sunday and 7th Sunday of Easter) marked the liturgical end of the Easter Season! This week is one of my fav celebrations, Pentecost Sunday. Our music will reflect our deep desire to be breathed upon by the Holy Spirit-to be filled with the fire of Her love. “O Wisdom, Wisdom, open our hearts…🎶”.
Two more special Sundays, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity and then the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, and then we will be in Ordinary Time for awhile!
What a joy to hear your voices in sung prayer and praise “ of the God who loves you”🎶!
Keep singing! You’re amazing!
With love,
Kathy
