Annual Inter-Service Club Luncheon

On Wednesday, I had the honor of attending the Annual Inter-Service Luncheon as the guest of Assistance League of Long Beach. Thanks to Executive Director, Colleen Bragalone, for the invitation to join her at the ALLB table. The event is a gathering of members from local service organizations including Assistance League, Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Century Club, Altrusa, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Y Service Club and Soroptimist. California Climate Action Corps Application

The California Climate Action Corps is recruiting fellows to lead climate action projects across California. Gain hands-on experience in urban greening, wildfire resiliency and food recovery. The City of Long Beach is accepting applications for placements with the Office of Sutainability and Long Beach Utilities. LADWP Haynes Pipeline Project

Toro Enterprises, Inc. is installing a 24-inch HDPE recycled water main along Studebaker Road. Construction activities include excavation, pipe installation, and restoration of the work area. Work is on Studebaker from E Mantova St to Freeway Ramp SR-22. Anticipated end date is August 20, 2026. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm. Find the work notice here. LB Century Club Middle School Championship Awards Banquet

On Wednesday, May 13th, the Long Beach Century Club hosted 1300 LBUSD Middle School Champions and their families to an awards banquet at the LBSFCU Pyramid. They were all treated to dinner from Naples Rib Company and each student athlete received a championship plaque from University Trophies. The event was Emceed by The562. Congratulations to all the awardees and their families on this great recognition!

Millikan High School 562 Night Market

The annual 562 Night Market is back at Millikan High School tonight! This event will feature local small businesses, games, performances and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander culture. In Person Voting Center Opens Tomorrow

May 23 - June 2 | International City Masonic Center | 5155 E PCH

One in-person Vote Center will open tomorrow, Saturday, May 23rd for the Primary Nominating Election at the International City Masonic Center (5155 E Pacific Coast Hwy.). All other Vote Centers will open on Saturday, May 30th and will be open from 10 am to 7 pm through June 1st. On Election Day, Tuesday, June 2nd, all Vote Centers will be open from 7 am to 8 pm. Vote by Mail ballots have also been distributed and may be returned by mail (no postage required), in person at any Vote Center in Los Angeles County, or at any Vote by Mail Ballot Drop Box. Sports Basement Ride Group

Every second and fourth Saturday of the month, the Sports Basement Long Beach Ride Group meets in front of the store. Tomorrow, May 23rd, is the fourth Saturday of the month, so be there at 7:30 am for the meetup, route details and to sign a waiver. Wheels roll at 8 am! 

4th Saturday Cleanup at Eldo Regional Park

Join fellow park-lovers to clean up fishing lines and other debris from El Dorado Park and lakes. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, wear a hat and sunscreen. All ages welcome. All Public Libraries Closed Tomorrow

In observance of Memorial Day, all Long Beach Public Library locations and services, including the main phone line, will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, May 23rd through Monday, May 25th. Libraries are not open Sundays per their normal schedule. Library patrons are encouraged to utilize the Library’s vast collection of digital resources at this link, including the Library catalog, downloads, and databases, available 24/7.

City Memorial Day Closures

May 25th | All day, Citywide



In observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 25, City Hall offices and public services will be closed. There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Monday, May 25th. Trash and recycling will be collected as scheduled. Filming in the Fourth

Filming is taking place on Tuesday, May 26th at a private residence and Los Altos Park. Production will have a 20-member cast and crew. Filming to consist of in-flow driving shots. Production must work within the public and leave a 4-foot pedestrian access on sidewalks/walkways at all times.

LBACS Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic

Long Beach Animal Care Services and Camp Clinics are hosting a low-cost vaccine clinic on Tuesday, May 26th from 10 am to 2:30 pm. In our May 8th newsletter, we announced that the new CSULB President had been invited to speak at our next community meeting. Yesterday, we learned that Dr. Loren Blanchard will not be attending our May 26th meeting. We’re still hosting our meeting next Tuesday and the special guest speaker will be the Director of Community Development, Christopher Koontz, who will speak about the Home Improvement Expo at Whaley Park. Clark Avenue Project Update

Begins May 27, 2026 | M-F 7 am - 4 pm | Clark Ave



Construction for the Clark Avenue Complete Street Project is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 27th on Clark Ave between Anaheim St and Spring St. Planned improvements include full roadway resurfacing, reconstruction of curbs and gutters and pedestrian safety improvements. One lane of travel will remain open during construction. Construction is expected to be completed Fall 2026. The Long Beach Fire Training Center will be conducting live fire trainings on these dates/times that are subject to change:

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society will be hosting a Relay for Life event at the POA Park on Saturday, May 30th. The Relay for Life stands for every cancer while walks for every life to honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change. Home Improvement Expo Event

The Community Development Department is bringing back its popular Home Improvement Expo during National Home Improvement Month. Long Beach residents can connect with local experts in remodeling, ADUs, window upgrades, solar installation, sustainable gardening and other topics. City staff will answer questions about permitting, inspections, code enforcement and more. The day will also include giveaways and family friendly activities, including a seed-planting project for kids — all for free. This event will be on Saturday, May 30th at Whaley Park. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is hosting Summer Fun Days beginning Monday, June 15th through Friday, August 21st. This program is for children 5-12 years old, and children may come and go at their own discretion. Pre-registration is required.
