Monday, May 27, 2024 is Memorial Day. Below is a lovely Memorial Day prayer from the Evangelical Lutheran Synod to help us commemorate this day:
Heavenly Father, as our nation pauses this weekend to remember those in the military who have given their lives for freedoms we enjoy, we pray You would have us all look to the heavens above for strength, comfort and guidance. Be with all who serve in our Armed Forces. Bless them and their families. Grant Your loving protection. Let peace prevail among all the nations, O God. Especially let Your mercy rest upon our land, even as we acknowledge with thanksgiving Your past goodness on this country. Most of all, we pray that You would turn the hearts of all – military and civilian – to Your Holy Word where we find the true peace for our sinful souls that surpasses all understanding. Keep us repentant of sin. Move us to know, take hold and treasure your saving grace. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Your beloved Son, who alone gives this peace and hope for eternity, we pray. Amen.
Please note that the Hope Lutheran Church office will be closed all day Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

A Message from Kristina Giffin, President of the Hope Lutheran Church Congregational Council
Dear family of Hope,
Serving on the Church Council is a rewarding, challenging, and fulfilling responsibility. Each of your Council Members is fully invested in the life and ministry of Hope, and we pour our hearts into the work we do. As such, we also like to keep you, the congregation we serve, aware of any changes or transitions impacting the Council.
Richard Gal, who has served as our Council Vice President since February 2023, recently resigned from his Council position and from his role as Head of the Call Committee. We give thanks for Richard's service to Hope and wish the very best for him in the future. Thank you for your work, Richard!
At our Council Meeting on May 21, our Council Member-at-Large Raybon Gilbert was affirmed by the rest of the Council as the new Vice President. Raybon will also be filling the open position on the Call Committee.
Raybon's term will run until the February 2025 Annual Congregational Meeting. The Vice President position, along with any other open Council positions, will be open for nominations late this year. If you have any questions or feel led by God to explore running for a Council position, please reach out to me or any Council member for more information. Our email addresses are listed online at hope4all.church/council. We would love to chat with you!
Please join your Council in praying for Richard and Raybon during this time of transition and new adventures. As always, thank you for being part of the Hope family!

Your car provides an easy way to check the status of things – how fast you are going, how much fuel remains, the temperature of the engine, etc. It’s called the Dashboard!
We provide the same easy way to check the church status – church attendance, the number of volunteers at the Food Pantry, membership, and more. Ours is also called the Dashboard!
It’s free and available on our website. If you would like to add information about your ministry, call Dave Withers (352) 233-7533.

25 Years of Hope Lutheran Church
As we look toward our 25th Anniversary in October 2024, we are also remembering our history! We will look back on years' past and remember some important moments in the life of our church.
|
Back in 2001...
On May 27, 2001, the people of Hope Lutheran Church officially broke ground on the building we now know as Hope Central Campus. The event was a time of great music and celebration!
In our first two years of life, Hope had become a thriving, vibrant congregation. By fall of 2001, we had exceeded 500 members. In an interview with The Daily Sun, Pastor Barry Hunteman said, "I am amazed that we have grown at such a rapid pace! It has far exceeded my expectations...I am astounded by the warmth and care of our church members."
After the September 11, 2001 attacks on our nation, Hope worked closely with the Aid Association for Lutherans and various Lutheran organizations to raise $1,111.44 for relief, in addition to participating in numerous blood drives, clothing drives, and other charitable activities.
Hope also continued to be a champion of local and global ministry. We had several opportunities throughout the year to host foreign pastors and missionaries, including the Ekka family and pastoral representation from Haiti. Our ladies knitted over 100 sweaters for famine relief. Hope volunteers continued to contribute greatly to various causes, sending supplies and championing global ministry.
We also actively participated in local ministry. Hope led a highway cleanup on November 7, 2001. Additionally, Hope had a booth at The Villages Lifestyle Festival on November 9, 2001.

Volunteers are needed to help make this year's Vacation Bible School program a success. VBS will be held July 15-19 at Hope Lake Weir Campus from 11:30am to 3:30pm.
Any new volunteer must complete a background check request and an application, both of which are available at Hope Central Campus or online at hope4all.church/vbs. Volunteers are also required to take a 40-minute class with Pastor John on Hope's child protective policy.
If you want to be blessed and be a blessing as we spread God’s love, complete an online application or contact Pastor John at pastorjohn@hope4all.church.

Hope South Campus Learning Opportunity
In response to the great interest in learning more about Hope South Campus from Dale Fiet, Hope's Design and Construction Chair, Dale and our Council President Kristina Giffin will offer another walking tour on Thursday, May 30, at 9:00am.
Attendees will hear a brief history of how Hope came to own this beautiful property, receive an overview of the architectural plans, view elevations, and if you choose, may join Dale for a walk around the eight-acre site to orient attendees to such things as the footprint of the Worship Center, parking areas, possible future structures, and more. There will also be an opportunity to ask Dale questions.
The tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be limited to about 12 people. We will waitlist people for the next tour if this one fills up, and will have as many tours as people show an interest in. Please email Kristina Giffin at kristinagiffin@bellsouth.net to reserve your spot for May 30 at 9:00am.
