Field Day!

Thank you to our 8th grade class (especially Brady Garrett and Logan Strzepek) for organizing and running today's PreK-5th Grade Field Day! We had a perfect day for lots of wet and wild fun in the sun!
Thank You for Supporting all of our Performers!

We have reached the end of our concert season. We had a wonderful turnout at each performance and we know the kids appreciated the warm support. Thank you to Mr. Wyatt, Ms. Vourvoulas, Ms. Coleen, and Ms. Kasiske for working with our students all year!
Peabody Student places Third in Writing Contest

Caroline Grist placed third in the 4/5 division of the Village School’s writing contest, Jambalaya.  Students wrote stories that had the line, “fragments of the future” incorporated into it. Caroline read her story, “Time Keeps Ticking” with other winners, at New Dominion Book Store this past Sunday. Congratulations, Caroline!
This Week in Middle School...

As part of the Civil War unit, Mr. Merrick took the sixth grade class to the Confederate capital, Richmond, VA. The class took in visits to the Tredegar Iron works (largest foundry for the CSA), President Jefferson Davis's White House, and the Museum of the Confederacy. Students learned about a wide range of skills, from operating a cannon crew to performing an amputation!
Mutligenre Madness is coming!

The eighth graders are busily working on their culminating writing projects. Topics have been chosen, research continues, and the crafting of a range of pieces of their choice is in the works. We all are looking forward to witnessing these comprehensive projects that uniquely convey "the story behind the story" of their self-selected area of interest. We hope you will join us in the gym for the unveiling of their work on 5/29 from 1:00-2:30 or 5/30 from 8:30-10:00.
Grade 8 Trip to Bath County

The 8th grade students embarked on their end of the year Biology trip to Bath County, Virginia last week in order to learn about the Appalachian ecosystem. This intrepid group battled the rain to visit the Coursey Springs Hatchery, go on a 5 mile hike to the top of North Sister Knob, catch literally dozens of fish, catalogue the biodiversity of a mountain valley, and took turns preparing meals for the entire group! Thank you to the excellent chaperones that made this trip possible and a special thank you to the Lunsfords for hosting Peabody's 8th grade on such a wonderful trip!
Illuminations... Peabody's New Literary Magazine Coming Soon!

Under the direction of Mr. Ebersole, Middle School English teacher, Peabody will be publishing a new Literary magazine titled, Illuminations. Selected works from students in Grades 5-8 are included in the magazine. A hard copy will be sent home to each student in Grades 5-8 the week of June 4th and a digital copy will be available on our website soon!
Let's get to 100%!

Many thanks to everyone who has already donated to the Peabody Annual Fund for 2017-18! We are extremely grateful for your contributions, and appreciate your support of Peabody and our mission. Our goal is 100% participation from all faculty/staff and families! We hope you will help us get there!

Graduation and Promotion

Can you believe that the end of school is less than a month away! We look forward to a special day on Friday, June 8th as we both honor our graduates and celebrate the end of a another wonderful year.

Here are some details of the day:

The graduation and awards ceremony for 8th graders and Middle School award winners will take place in the Batten gym. Seating will start at 8:30AM and the ceremony will start at 9:00AM and last approximately an hour. The entire student body will be present to honor our 8th graders. Due to limited seating, this event is only attended by students, Grade 8 parents, their guests, and parents of award winners.

Starting at 10:30AM, we will also hold a promotion ceremony for the rest of our students, also in the Batten gym. This ceremony will be followed by classroom celebrations in your student's homeroom. There will be more information to come about that piece and parking for the event. All our welcome to this ceremony.
