We are so excited that the Woodville Park renovation project is underway!



Please do not enter construction zones and be mindful of increased traffic throughout the park. The playground will remain open. The expected completion for this project is September.

Discover how Virginia’s First Peoples used fire to fell trees and build canoes on May 27, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Machicomoco State Park in Gloucester. The activity will be followed by a tasty treat. Participants will get to try their hand at making fire using both the bow drill and flint and steel. They will also have the opportunity to scrape out a burned log and contribute to creating a dugout canoe! Recommended for participants ages 8+.

Pre-registration is recommended due to limited supplies.

The Middle Peninsula Community Services Board will host a narcotics investigator with the Gloucester Sheriff's Office June 22 from 3-4 p.m. who will provide a current overview of illicit drugs impacting our communities.

We are celebrating our 50th birthday this July and we couldn't think of a better way than to party at Woodville Park with our community! Mark your calendars for July 14th from 5-8pm for an evening of FUN! A Monster Slide, Obstacle Course, Dunk Tank, Bounce House, and some awesome Parks & Rec inspired games will be on hand!


Positive Pizza & Island Time Delights Food Trucks will be on sight serving up a delicious menu!

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Press Events for the Coming Week


**SUMMER REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR CAMPS AND FALL SOCCER.**



KIDS FREE FISHING DAY AT BEAVERDAM

Parks, Recreation & Tourism and the Department of Wildlife Resources is sponsoring Kids Free Fishing Day, for ages 5-15, at Beaverdam Park on Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The weekend of June 3 and 4 are Free Fishing days in Virginia, no fishing licenses are needed to fish on those days. A Conservation Police Officer will be on site to help and will bring fishing poles and bait for registered participants. An adult must accompany children. Registration is free but required in advance, the deadline to register is May 27.


BEAVERDAM KID’S FISHING TOURNAMENT

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Kid’s Fishing Tournament, for ages 5-15, on Sunday, June 4 from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. An adult must accompany all participants. Shore fishing and boat fishing divisions, all rental fees apply. Age divisions will be determined by registration. The fee is $15 and the deadline to register is May 28


ZUMBA

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Zumba on Mondays and Wednesdays in June from 6:45-7:45 pm at Abingdon. The fee is $8 per day if you sign up for the whole month or $9 per day for individual days. The deadline to register is May 29.


FREE FLOW YOGA

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Free Flow Yoga on Tuesdays in June from 5:30-6:45 pm at the Whitcomb Lodge. The fee is $32 for the whole month or $9 per day and the deadline is May 30.


BEST YEARS TRIP ORIOLES VS YANKEES AT CAMDEN YARD

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a trip to Baltimore to see the Orioles vs Yankees on Sunday, July 30. The game is at 1:35 pm. Trip includes game ticket and transportation. All food is on your own. The fee is $115 and the deadline to register is July 23 or when tickets sell out.


SPECIALTY INSTRUCTORS

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is seeking individuals that are interested in teaching classes for youth or adults. Dance, gymnastics, yoga, exercise, crafts, arts, games, knitting, carving, and just about anything else you are interested in sharing. Visit the county’s webpage and look for job opportunities, all applications must be online.
