Imagine Sleeping Outside This Week in the Heat
Pandemic has Huge Impact on Weather Relief Availability
Every year at this time, the HSC and our partners focus a lot on Weather Relief for our clients. This year, the Coronavirus and physical distancing requirements have forced us to make changes for the health and safety of our clients and staff. At the same time, these changes have resulted in a significant reduction in indoor shelter availability. We currently have Weather Relief space for only 40 individuals, compared with 275 last year. While we are working around the clock to find more relief spaces, there are things you can do in the short-term and long-term to help:
We need at least 60,000 bottles of water per month to keep our clients hydrated and healthy.
Homelessness is not a choice. The reasons men and women experience homelessness are as diverse as they are.

To address the challenge, the Human Services Campus and our collaborating partners are seeking Phoenix City Council approval to add more shelter beds.

We are not expanding the Campus. We need permission to use our existing space for those men and women already at and near the Campus, so that more people can sleep inside.
