Summer Camps Announced by Parks, Recreation & Tourism

Check out these awesome looking summer camps being offered by Gloucester Parks, Recreation & Tourism!

HISTORY CAMP
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring an Experience Gloucester History Day Camp on July 19-23 from 9:00 am to Noon at the Gloucester Museum of History. The camp is for rising 4th and 5th graders. Campers will explore the court circle, Gloucester Museum of History, Rosewell Ruins and a Revolutionary War encampment. Learn Gloucester’s rich history and how local folks had an impact on our state and nation. The fee is $59 and the deadline to register is July 12.

PERFORMING ARTS CAMP
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring two Performing Arts Camps, under the direction of Karen Scalf for ages 8-11 “Disney” will be the theme of the camp. This camp meets from 9:00 to noon. For girls ages 12-17, the camp theme is “Show Music Choir.” This camp meets from 1:00-4:00 pm. Both camps are $59.00 and will be held at T.C. Walker from June 28-July 1. The deadline to register is June 21.

Preparing for a Hurricane Involves Much More than an Emergency Kit

Gloucester County Emergency Management officials are urging residents to focus on the many reasons they should include flood insurance in their hurricane preparedness plans. The Atlantic Hurricane Season begins June 1 and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting another above-normal Atlantic hurricane season.

Library Seeking Public's Guidance on Courses to Offer

Symphony Under the Stars FREE Family Concert Scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at Woodville Park

Admission is free but attendees MUST reserve parking here: (PER CAR, NOT PER PERSON)

Doors open at 6:30pm, come set up your spot and watch as some of the invited Plein Air artists will be on hand painting in hopes of winning the "Best Symphony Painting" award. The main event will begin at 8 p.m.

Parking is available onsite (WITH reservations) and at Abingdon Elementary School and Abingdon Park, shuttle service will be provided from those locations to Woodville Park.

Handicap parking is available at both locations and shuttle buses are accessible. Appropriate placard or license plate required for handicap parking spots.

RAIN DATE: JUNE 6TH, 8PM SAME LOCATION

Bag Chairs are encouraged instead of blankets since the ground can be wet.

Picnics are welcome but NO ALCOHOL is allowed on County property.

Dine on Main Street before or after the concert. Participating restaurants will be offering a 10% discount. Please keep our event safe by physical distancing and wearing a mask when around non-family members.

Who Dunnit? Gloucester Chamber and Abingdon Ruritan Club to present Murder/Mystery Dinner Theater (DATE CHANGE)

What is a Murder Mystery Dinner? A murder mystery to be solved. The guests will take on the role of entertainers and characters. At some point in the evening, while enjoying some delicious food and drinks, one of the guests will be "killed' by one of the other participants. The remainder of the evening after dinner and desserts will be spent piecing together clues in an attempt to determine who the murderer is amongst the party.

The guests are a group mixed of Chamber members and Ruritans in a jazz club set in New York City (Abindgon Ruritan Club transformed) during the Roaring 20s.

The event will be held at The Abingdon Ruritan Club, 8784 Guinea Road, Hayes, VA 23072 August 7 from 6-9 p.m.
