Oakville Transit now FREE
for youth and seniors

Starting May 1st, Oakville Transit is now FREE of charge for youth (13-19) and seniors (65+) with the use of a valid PRESTO card.
PRESTO cards can be purchased anytime for a one-time fee of $6 at local Shoppers Drug Mart locations, Oakville GO station, Oakville Transit and Town Hall.
"This has been a wonderful start to a new initiative that's really going to open up possibilities for everybody in town to get around more and connect more with each other and make Oakville an even friendlier and livable place."

Let's Talk Midtown: The Vision for Midtown Oakville |
The Town of Oakville has released the latest draft of the town-initiated Official Plan Amendment (OPA) for Midtown Oakville.
The town invites residents and businesses to provide their input through an online survey and in-person engagement opportunities before the OPA is finalized for Council’s approval.
“Provincial legislation has designated 25 Urban Growth Centres across Ontario with minimum density targets for each one. Working together we can ensure that Midtown Oakville is Ontario's most livable urban growth centre. Our engaged community has an opportunity to help shape this exciting and historic project. Achieving success in Midtown is essential for our community’s future.”

The Town is holding an information session on the neighbourhood traffic safety program on May 18.
The Neighbourhood Safety Program is an ongoing effort to ensure Oakville’s residential streets are safe for all road users.
The program will see the implementation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras, and an increase in community safety zones and pedestrian crossovers, to address speeding and aggressive driving in Oakville’s residential neighbourhoods.

Town of Oakville receives David W. Pretty Cup for lifesaving swimming programs | |
The Town of Oakville has received Lifesaving Society Ontario’s David W. Pretty Cup for a third year in a row.
Earlier this month, the town also received the 2023 Parks and Recreation Ontario Aquatics Facility Design Award.
Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre has been recognized for its excellence in aquatics facility design and the innovative ways it meets the community’s needs.

Feeding wildlife is prohibited

On April 24, Town Council approved an amendment to the Lot Maintenance By-law prohibiting feeding wildlife and leaving food out to attract animals.
Feeding wildlife may seem harmless, however it can have serious impacts on both animals and the community.

Blaze Fire Academy, a joint initiative of the fire departments in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills, is back with more career sessions to encourage adults and youth to join the fire service.

to attend fire prevention info session

Oakville Fire department is inviting you to attend a free fire prevention information session this May to learn about the legislated responsibilities landlords and tenants each have regarding smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Topics covered will also include home escape planning, candle safety, and cooking safety.
An in-person session will be on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Halton Multicultural Council, 1092 Speers Road, Oakville.
A virtual session will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Interested attendees can register by emailing hal-masri@hmcconnections.com.

First Term 2018 – 2022
- Bill 66, Restoring Ontario's. Competitiveness Act
The province describes this as an Act to restore Ontario's economic competitiveness by amending or repealing certain Acts in order to “eliminate red tape and burdensome regulations so businesses can grow, create and protect good jobs for the people of Ontario”.
- Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice Act
The Bill includes extensive amendments to legislation related to housing development in Ontario, including substantial changes to the planning and appeal process, municipal revenue generation tools and environmental protection.
Second term 2022-Present
- Bill 3, Strong Mayors, Building Homes Act, 2022
Bill 3 would amend the City of Toronto Act, 2006 and the Municipal Act, 2001 to provide new powers to the mayor of the City of Toronto and mayors of other “designated municipalities,” such as by allowing them to appoint or dismiss the chief administrative officer or a chair or vice-chair of a local board. Only a two-thirds vote of city council can overrule a “strong mayor” on matters deemed a “provincial priority,” such as affordable housing projects, public transit, highways and other infrastructure.
