Around the Diocese

Project (Re)Start to the Rescue!

Recently, disaster struck a family that are members of St. Paul's, Sacramento. Brie Hardy and her two children lost everything in a house fire. Their immediate needs were handled quickly, but then came the question of how to begin again, once they had secured a new apartment.

As participants in Project (Re)Start, the folks at St. Paul's knew the project would be a great way to help their fellow parishioners.

They contacted the diocese and asked for help. Project (Re)Start was activated to provide the basic necessities of setting up a new home in support of Ms. Hardy and her children.

The bishop gives special thanks to St. Paul's, Sacramento (cleaning bin), St. Luke's, Galt (bathroom bin), and the Youth Group of Faith, Cameron Park (bedroom and kitchen bins), for sharing the love of Christ with fellow parishoners in need.

Your congregation can become a part of Project (Re)Start and care for our neighbors in need as well. Contact Mark Dibelka for more information: mark@norcalepiscopal.org

The work of Disaster Resilience goes on around the diocese

Top left: Sherry Wallmark and Leona Fisher of St. John's Chico staff the ReStart booth at a recent Community Art Fair at the church. Bottom Left: Meg Verardi and Steve Christianson of Trinity Sutter Creek with CalFires' Captain Cal at the 2nd Annual SmokeChasers Event. Right: Marge Wheeler of St. Barnabas, Mt. Shasta, meets with a Mill Fire survivor at the Mill Fire Resource Center in Weed..

Recently, I spent several weeks out of state training with some of our partner agencies and with Episcopal Relief & Development. Even so, the work of Disaster Resilience in our diocese continued. With the support of volunteers, the diocese was represented at the Chico Arts Festival, Mill Fire Resource Center in Weed, and the Amador County Smokechasers Fair in Jackson.

A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers who made these events happen and shared how the Episcopal Church is making itself resilient to disasters.

These are just a few of the congregations that have stepped up and made Disaster Resilience a priority. If you'd like to volunteer and learn how your congregation can help, please contact me at mark@norcalepiscopal.org
